About The Position

itD is seeking a Project Manager to execute and coordinate work across Vendor Management & Project Outsourcing and Work Management & Fulfillment, supporting fast-paced prototype manufacturing operations. This role is critical to ensuring outsourced prototype work—across CNC machining and 3D printing—moves efficiently from vendors to customers, meeting strict technical specifications, quality standards, and delivery timelines. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in manufacturing or prototype environments, excels at precise execution, and can manage multiple concurrent projects while coordinating closely with vendors, internal specialists, and production teams. Requirements

  • 1–2 years of experience in manufacturing operations, prototype shops, supply chain coordination, or technical vendor management.
  • Direct, hands-on experience in hardware or prototype manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manufacturing specifications, and basic GD&T callouts.
  • Experience using basic measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) for part inspection.
  • Strong multitasking and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for vendor coordination and internal updates.
  • Proficiency with order management systems, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work in a shop floor environment, including lifting packages up to 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in CNC machining, prototype manufacturing, or job shop environments.
  • Knowledge of machining processes such as milling, turning, and grinding.
  • Experience with 3D printing technologies (FDM, SLA, SLS) and post-processing techniques.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems or job tracking software used in custom manufacturing.
  • Understanding of shipping requirements for precision parts, including protective packaging and corrosion control.
  • Experience coordinating with external technical vendors or managing manufacturing procurement.
  • Exposure to rapid prototyping environments with tight timelines and shifting priorities.
  • Experience with CAT or other design software.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and manage outsourced prototype manufacturing projects across CNC machining and 3D printing vendors.
  • Process purchase orders and track order status for prototype parts and materials.
  • Coordinate vendor communications, ensuring technical specifications, drawings, and requirements are clearly understood.
  • Receive, inspect, and verify vendor-delivered parts against drawings, tolerances, and quality standards.
  • Use basic measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to validate dimensions and specifications.
  • Manage shipping logistics, including material delivery to vendors and return of completed prototypes.
  • Maintain accurate vendor tracking records, delivery status, and quality documentation.
  • Report delivery delays, quality issues, and production risks to internal coordinators and specialists.
  • Support production scheduling and customer fulfillment for high-volume prototype parts.
  • Manage logistics and tracking for thousands of parts across multiple active projects.
  • Attend regular internal practice community meetings.
  • Collaborate with your itD practice team on industry thought leadership.
  • Complete client case studies and learning material (blogs, media material).
  • Build out material to contribute to the Digital Transformation practice.
  • Attend internal itD networking events (in person and virtual).
  • Work with leadership on career fast-track opportunities.
