About The Position

United Steel, New England's largest fabricator and erector of structural steel and miscellaneous metals, is seeking experienced Project Managers due to strong sales. The role involves planning, directing, and coordinating project activities to achieve objectives within time and budget constraints, while ensuring customer satisfaction and protecting the company's long-term interests. This is a relationship-driven business where the Project Manager plays a key role in future sales by maintaining the company's reputation and building strong client relationships.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in project management
  • At least 5 years of project managing experience in the steel fabrication/erection industry
  • Self-starter, able to build and work well within team environments, and work independently
  • Pro-active with a strong sense of urgency
  • Ability to work through bid process and project demands
  • Ability to address and surpass customer needs and requests while balancing company's best interest
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively
  • Basic math skills
  • Technical writing skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project Management Software, and pdf editors

Responsibilities

  • Manage relationships with clients, project managers, superintendents, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors to foster future sales and maintain the company's good name.
  • Ensure all project knowledge, including safety, scope, proposals, special instructions, and construction methods, is vetted and communicated to the project team.
  • Effectively manage the team and situations to benefit the company, build customer relationships, and maximize profits.
  • Proactively identify, prepare for, and resolve potential future issues with plans that support the business and customer relationships.
  • Ensure subcontracts and purchase agreements are in place, conforming to project requirements, with all supporting documentation, and meeting the needs of United Steel and its clients.
  • Act as a liaison between detailers, architects, and engineers, documenting communications affecting schedule, price, changes, special agreements, and RFIs.
  • Ensure all internal and external communications are followed through to guarantee vendors, suppliers, engineers, detailers, and shop/field management proceed according to plans and schedules.
  • Expedite Change Orders and RFIs through necessary departments and to clients, documenting according to internal procedures.
  • Follow up on submitted Change Orders for prompt resolution.
  • Review project status with financial information and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Review and approve project invoices from detailers, erectors, and outside vendors, processing them to purchasing for final review.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate customer billings monthly, and follow up on delinquent payments.
  • Maintain constant follow-up with field operations and act on obtained information.
  • Travel to project sites for weekly/bi-weekly job meetings and coordinate with customers, design teams, and other subcontractors.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules in conformance with contract requirements, identifying key milestones and critical path.
  • Coordinate timely deliveries from the shop and vendors within planned schedules.
  • Maintain internal procedural communication methods, including daily/weekly reports and schedules for structural and miscellaneous metals.
  • Manage project closeout, including all necessary billing and documentation.
  • Assist the Director of Project Management in developing policies and procedures.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning work, addressing complaints, resolving problems, appraising performance, and disciplining employees within their team.
  • Adhere to United Steel's and Project Site Safety Rules, including wearing required PPE.
  • Manage complex projects requiring attention to detail, coordination, and potential travel for site verification or field measuring.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet ongoing project and organizational needs.
