About The Position

Manages multiple concurrent transmission electric system capital improvement projects, overseeing each project from initiation through completion. This role involves assembling and coordinating cross-functional project teams for high-priority projects to ensure they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget. The Project Manager will facilitate the development of detailed baseline project schedules, monitor progress, identify at-risk activities, and proactively address issues to prevent delays. They will also lead various project meetings, act as an escalation point for project issues, risks, and change requests, and manage project costs through cash flow projections and variance analysis. Additionally, the role includes reviewing contractor quotes, PO requisitions, change orders, and invoices, and communicating project status effectively to leadership and stakeholders. Collaboration with personnel across the company is essential to achieve project objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or relevant field.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in project and/or construction management in the electric utility industry or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
  • OR Minimum of twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience in project and/or construction management in electric utility construction or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
  • Transmission electric system capital project experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, direct and motivate a team comprised of a cross-functional group of resources.
  • Familiarity with creating a project schedule.
  • Some experience with identifying alternative solutions and in performing risk assessments.
  • Some experience in coordinating and negotiating with outside vendors or third parties to ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Possesses effective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously.
  • Required to travel on short notice.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, in a team environment.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) preferred.
  • Experience in creating a project schedule using Primavera, Microsoft Project or equivalent scheduling software application preferred.
  • Familiarity with electric utility construction processes preferred.
  • Familiarity with electric substation and line equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles and coordinates cross-functional project teams for high-priority projects.
  • Leads project teams to meet project objectives on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Facilitates the development of detailed baseline project schedules, identifying critical paths and milestones.
  • Updates construction dates in the project schedule monthly.
  • Monitors progress towards the schedule and identifies at-risk activities.
  • Heads off schedule delays by addressing issues proactively.
  • Facilitates project meetings (status, coordination, scheduling, lessons learned).
  • Acts as an escalation point for project issues, risks, and change requests.
  • Manages and resolves project issues, escalating concerns as needed.
  • Monitors and controls project costs through cash flow projections and variance analysis.
  • Reviews construction contractor quotes and issues PO requisitions.
  • Reviews and approves construction contractor change orders and invoices.
  • Communicates project status, issues, and risks to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Works with personnel from all areas of the company to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
