About The Position

The General Services Department (GSD) is seeking a Project Manager to manage the design and construction of projects for the Parks Capital Program. This position will be responsible for assisting with site analysis, developing project scope, schedule and budget for projects, assisting with procurements, and managing design and construction contracts. The role involves reviewing construction documents and plans, overseeing the construction process, processing pay applications, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. The Project Manager will ensure completed project work meets contractual obligations, provide routine project updates, and maintain good working relationships with clients, primarily the Houston Parks and Recreation Department and contractor representatives. This role also includes performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Project Management or a closely related field based on the responsibilities of the position.
  • Considerable knowledge of design or construction is required.
  • Four years of experience in construction, construction inspection, design, landscape design, geotechnical, environmental or a closely related field are required.
  • Directly related professional architectural, construction or landscape design experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with site analysis, developing project scope, schedule and budget for projects
  • Assists with procurements and manages design and construction contracts
  • Reviews construction document and plan, including sitework, architectural, landscape and irrigation plans
  • Oversees the construction process
  • Procures, negotiates and manages design and construction contracts
  • Reviews design drawings including landscape and irrigation plans
  • Will drive to oversee construction
  • Processes pay applications
  • Coordinates and manages internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensures completed project work meets the required obligation under the contract and provides routine project updates
  • Develops and maintains a good working relationship with clients, primarily the Houston Parks and Recreation Department and contractor representatives
  • Performs other duties as assigned
