About The Position

Bala Consulting Engineers is seeking an experienced Mission Critical Project Manager to lead select Mission Critical projects and contribute to the expansion of a team capable of executing large-scale Mission Critical projects regionally and nationally. The role involves mentoring and developing staff, providing technical expertise, supporting sales efforts, and cultivating client relationships. The ideal candidate thrives on challenges, possesses the ability to develop clients and attract new business, manage internal teams, and execute multiple projects concurrently. A strong understanding of industry standards and the latest technologies in MEP systems design for mission critical facility infrastructure is essential, as is the ability to lead projects and teams, and communicate effectively with clients, owner's representatives, facility engineers, and multidisciplinary staff. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this dynamic and entrepreneurial role directs and assesses daily operations of an engineering team through collaboration. The Project Manager will review proposals, supervise budgeting and cost analysis, and identify improvements for higher quality products and services. Requirements

  • At least ten years of experience in engineering consulting or adjacent field (construction, owner’s representative, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another relevant field from a 4-year accredited university
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Knowledge of building codes
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and the latest technologies for MEP systems design of Mission Critical Facilities

  • PE license preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a project manager on select projects in the Mission Critical Sector, including newbuilds, renovations, fit-outs, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Act as a client-facing representative, including RFP site visits and proposal writing.
  • Perform all management functions including scope responsibilities, client management, scheduling, and financials.
  • Vet company processes and provide input.
  • Assist project managers across all locations of the enterprise.
  • Develop a core group of assistant project managers capable of performing independently.
  • Spend most of the time in the local office area, with travel to other Bala offices encouraged as needed.
  • Travel nationally to project sites infrequently on an as-needed basis.
  • Be a technical resource for the staff.
  • Manage/schedule quality control reviews to reinforce technical lessons and company processes.
  • Complete internal peer reviews and provide input in multi-discipline page turns across all offices.
  • Manage/schedule page turns prior to all major project deliverables.
  • Provide input utilizing sound engineering principles.
  • Review workforce projections and determine how they relate to staffing.
  • Identify times and strategies to manipulate design schedules to work with staffing.
  • Drive ownership, accountability, and culture through the company.
  • Interact with partners and executives regularly to further the growth and quality agenda of the firm.
  • Identify potential business opportunities.
  • Work with the leadership team to develop fees on complex projects.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Grow the volume and footprint of the office market sectors.
