About The Position

Bala Consulting Engineers is seeking an experienced, Mission Critical Project Manager for their Philadelphia area office. This role involves leading select Mission Critical projects, developing a team capable of executing large-scale projects nationally, mentoring staff, and providing technical expertise. The successful candidate will also support sales efforts by cultivating client relationships and attracting new business. This position requires the ability to manage internal teams, execute multiple projects concurrently, and possess knowledge of industry standards and the latest technologies in MEP systems design for mission-critical facilities. The Project Manager will report to the Director of Operations and will direct and assess the daily operations of an engineering team, review proposals, supervise budgeting and cost analysis, and identify improvements for higher quality products or services. This is a full-time role with a hybrid work arrangement of four days in the office and one day remote.

Requirements

  • At least ten years of experience in engineering consulting or an adjacent field (construction, owner’s representative, etc.).
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another relevant field from a 4-year accredited university.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Knowledge of building codes.
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and the latest technologies for MEP systems design of Mission Critical Facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a project manager on select projects in the Mission Critical Sector, including newbuilds, renovations, fit-outs, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Act as a client-facing representative, participating in RFP site visits and proposal writing.
  • Perform all management functions including scope responsibilities, client management, scheduling, and financials.
  • Vet company processes and provide input.
  • Assist project managers across all locations of the enterprise.
  • Develop a core group of assistant project managers capable of performing independently.
  • Spend most of the time in the local Philadelphia area, with travel to other Bala offices and national project sites as needed.
  • Be a technical resource for the staff.
  • Manage and schedule quality control reviews to reinforce technical lessons and company processes.
  • Complete internal peer reviews and provide input in multi-discipline page turns across all offices.
  • Manage and schedule page turns prior to all major project deliverables.
  • Provide input utilizing sound engineering principles.
  • Review workforce projections and determine how they relate to staffing.
  • Identify times and strategies to manipulate design schedules to work with staffing.
  • Drive ownership, accountability, and culture through the company.
  • Interact with partners and executives to further the growth and quality agenda of the firm.
  • Identify potential business opportunities.
  • Work with the leadership team to develop fees on complex projects.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Grow the volume and footprint of the office market sectors.
