About The Position

Provide engineering technical development, oversight, project execution, and project management responsibilities in support of a broad range of water facility projects including gathering, conveyance, storage, and distribution. The candidate will be responsible for coordinating and communicating with the various Tallgrass commercial and operational groups to support business development and be expected to take a defined business commitment, apply basic engineering analytical concepts, coordinate between multiple entities, and develop a project and engineering/execution plan for the successful completion of a project to meet business objectives. Work with Tallgrass’s various customers, the public, government agencies, and other stakeholders to communicate project goals and objectives to advance projects from concept to design/engineering to construction and ultimately through realization of operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent from an accredited institution along with a minimum of 8 years of relevant job experience.
  • 5 years of experience in major project environments with direct work experience in engineering or project management of municipal and/or industrial water projects including transmission, metering, pumping, storage, gathering, processing/treatment, and distribution.
  • Full complement of project management skills including project scoping and estimating utilizing work breakdown structures, cost and schedule control, design and construction management, team building, resource planning, procurement procedures, and permitting.
  • Executed at least one major capital project with a Total Installed Cost of more than $20 million.
  • Very strong analytical skills that are required to develop concepts while working in partnership with Tallgrass Commercial personnel.
  • Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including but not limited to the ability to present ideas, proposals, and results to business segment leaders and to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work, including tracking and managing large projects, and to see projects to completion while maintaining strict confidentiality (as necessary).
  • General understanding of how corporate policies, procedures, practices, and processes relate to the Water business segment, associated business units, and internal and external customers.
  • Understand basic economic analysis as it pertains to project justification.

  • Ability to manage projects(s) that will include working with individuals with varying disciplines, backgrounds, and experience levels.
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulations and agencies such as DOT, OSHA, EPA, and various state counterparts, e.g., DEQ, SEO, etc.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to: Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Project, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).
  • Must be able to deal effectively with people and resolve conflicts and problems.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to manage, lead, and direct Tallgrass and third-party personnel.

  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with fellow workers and demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures.
  • Overtime and extended work hours may be required in cases of emergencies.
  • Required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

  • Training in project management software and techniques including project scoping and estimating utilizing work breakdown structures, cost and schedule control systems, design and construction management, team building, resource planning, procurement, and permitting is a plus.
  • Knowledge of industrial and municipal water system operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects in a manner that assures safety, reliability, environmental and human impacts are mitigated while meeting the project goals (including but not limited to: Schedule, Budget, Safety, and Overall Quality).
  • Create long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines.
  • Delegate project tasks to resources (internally or externally) who are best positioned to complete them.
  • Make effective decisions regarding next steps when presented with multiple options on how to proceed with project execution.
  • Serve as a point of contact and on-site representative for teams when multiple units are assigned to the same project to ensure team actions remain in synergy.
  • Perform quality control on the project throughout development to maintain the standards expected.
  • Adjust project schedules and targets as requirements, or financing, change.
  • Provide preliminary work scopes, estimates, and budgeting details of assigned projects/work items.
  • Support the bidding process to ensure competitive and effective costing.
  • Provide project management to ensure that projects are completed in line with commercial commitments.
  • Advise management of progress toward project objectives and develop strategies for necessary adjustments.
  • Recognize and promote ideas that provide safer, more efficient, and cost-effective operation.
  • Effectively interface with customer representatives, regulators, Tallgrass staff, and others, as required.
  • Interact with operations personnel during concept, design, construction, and completion of capital projects for smooth turnover post-construction.
  • Follow all Tallgrass Policies and Procedures and best practices.
  • Provide leadership and direction to project team that may be comprised of internal and external service providers; including, but not limited to: Project Engineers, Planning Engineers, Operation Engineers, and Environmental Engineers to ensure project success.
  • Provide or direct the appropriate level of project documentation during the project and following project completion to assure compliance with the policies of Corporate, Federal, State and other governing bodies.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations that communicate project proposals, descriptions, and statuses to upper management, to customers, to governmental agencies, and/or to the public.
  • Provide accurate monthly project cash flow forecasts.
  • Ensure ongoing improvement through evaluation of current processes.
  • Travel is required and anticipated as 10- to 15-percent across a broad geographic region – specifically, Southeast Wyoming (day trips from Lakewood, CO).
  • Organize projects in the Company’s financial control system, review and manage expenditures and commitments, and prepare monthly cost control reports.
  • Successfully interact with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Speak clearly and listen carefully, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of communication skills.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Work non-traditional hours, as needed.

Benefits

  • The annual salary range for this position will be $125,300-$187,900/yr.
