About The Position

This position will oversee the management of consultant design projects in order to successfully deliver complex infrastructure projects as part of the Department's Work Program. In this role, you will oversee consultant teams, manage contract budgets and project scope, and engage with the public on transportation decisions throughout the project lifecycle. Responsibilities include overseeing the production of high-quality deliverables on schedule and within the prescribed budget, engaging with the public and project stakeholders throughout the life of transportation projects and facilitate a teamwork based environment throughout the design of a project.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: Florida Department of Transportation (Department) Project Management policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of: principles, practices, laws and regulations governing the project development and design of transportation facilities
  • Knowledge of: engineering design, construction, production and/or operations
  • Knowledge of: problem solving and research techniques
  • Skills in: using engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments
  • Skills in: monitoring project schedules and coordinating phases of design
  • Skills in: working with the public, consultants, government officials and regulatory agencies to maintain effective working relationships
  • Skills in: reviewing, analyzing and negotiating contracts, claims or time extensions
  • Skills in: managing multiple priorities and making timely decisions in order to keep projects within budget and meet department requirements
  • Skills in: communicating effectively orally and in writing
  • Skills in: developing scope of services and staff hour estimates and negotiating staff hours
  • Skills in: reviewing technical data
  • Skills in: preparing and reviewing technical reports
  • Ability to: establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to: utilize a personal computer
  • High school diploma or its equivalent and four years of continuous employment experience; or three years of higher education with a cumulative of 72 semester hours or 108 quarter hours.

Responsibilities

  • Manages design projects with general supervision.
  • Serves as a contract manager for design projects assigned to consultant firms.
  • Stays up-to-date on current design processes and procedures, administrative and engineering policies relative to consultant contracts and plans production.
  • Monitors projects for construction costs increases throughout the design phase.
