About The Position

As one of the fastest-growing academic health centers in the nation, Texas A&M Health encompasses five colleges and numerous centers and institutes working together to improve health through transformative education, innovative research and team-based health care delivery. The Project Manager II will manage the strategic leadership and direction for the administrative and operations-related functions for the highly complex multi-institutional Gulf Coast Consortium Research Evaluation and Commercialization Hub (GCC REACH), headquartered at the Institute of Biosciences and Technology. The position achieves mission and goals through administration and coordination of academic and industry participants, mentors, advisors, and key stakeholders. It oversees program communications, scheduling of forums and meetings, and all NIH-required reporting and documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five (5) years of program or project management/administrative experience

Nice To Haves

  • MBA, MS or PhD in related field or Higher Education
  • Two (2) years of academic and/or industry biotechnology development and commercialization experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manages program/project operations and portfolios in line with business strategies and in accordance with program/project management standards.
  • Provides leadership to achieve program/project goals and vision.
  • Coordinates project resources in conjunction with resource holders and other stakeholders; tracks tasks (i.e., maintain spreadsheets, simple dashboards, participant/mentor rosters, milestone trackers) with accuracy and consistency; maintains status lists; documents decisions; escalates issues when needed
  • Manages projects that the problem and solution may be defined moderate to achieve.
  • Manages project quality control and assurance.
  • Manages multiple tasks and deadlines with appropriate follow-through
  • Coordinates calendars, schedules meetings/forums, and handles meeting logistics (in-person and virtual)
  • Collects inputs across institutions and maintains accurate, audit-ready records and files for reporting, compliance, and standard procedures/templates
  • Coordinates multi-institution or multi-stakeholder programs.
  • Supports grant-funded programs, including compiling routine reports and maintaining documentation (i.e., NIH)
  • Works with academic research, biotech/biomedical innovation, or commercialization environments (technology transfer, SBIR/STTR, industry partnerships, startups)
  • Coordinates all NIH reporting and documentation requirements, including progress reports, data calls, metrics/outcomes reporting and responds to ad hoc NIH requests
  • Tracks program/project milestones, participant progress, and outcomes (e.g., program/project advancement, follow-on funding, IP events, licensing/startup activity, partnerships)
  • Supports development of dashboards and continuous quality improvement
  • Develops and guides strategic plans, including identification and resolution of strategic issues of substantial significance that affect overall program/project functioning
  • Evaluates and provides semi-annual reports regarding the effectiveness of organizational structure and programs/projects to ensure success and appropriate use of staff and resources
  • Provides input to institutional leadership on related administrative policies and guidelines
  • Facilitates two-way communications with participants and stakeholders; serves as the primary contact to ensure timely follow-up, action tracking, and resolution.
  • Creates and distributes routine communications (agendas, reminders, summaries, action items) in a professional tone/manner
  • Establish and nurture relationships with program/project participants, mentors, advisors, and key stakeholders
  • Assemble and coordinate strategic advisory teams for academic faculty entrepreneurs and translational program/project teams
  • Oversees mentor network operations, including onboarding, engagement, scheduling, matching to projects/participants, and tracking mentor participation
  • Provide input on innovation and commercialization strategy, program/project design, and ecosystem partnerships to strengthen and expand impact
