About The Position

Manages complex, high-visibility Extension and outreach projects of medium to large scope for the Agricultural Economics and Range, Wildlife and Fisheries programs. Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, publications, digital content, and stakeholder engagement initiatives that advance production agriculture economics across Texas and beyond. Oversees graphic design, social media, program marketing efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in agricultural related field with coursework in animal science, farm and ranch management, agricultural marketing, finance, and/or policy preferred.
  • Three years of related experience in project management, Extension programming, agricultural communications, or applied agricultural economics required.

  • B.S. (completed or in progress) in Agricultural Economics, Animal Science, Agricultural Leadership/Education/Communications, or related discipline.
  • 4+ years of Extension or outreach program experience at a land-grant university.
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital communications, social media strategy, and content creation.
  • Advanced writing skills across multiple formats: Extension publications, popular press, and digital/social media.
  • Expertise in social media analytics, SEO, content management systems (e.g., WordPress), graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, N-Design), and video editing software.
  • Knowledge of current trends in production agriculture economics and risk management.
  • Demonstrated success building partnerships and collaborating with county agents, commodity organizations, and agribusiness.

Responsibilities

  • Manages project activities including developing, implementing, tracking budgets, tracking timelines and deliverables, and providing periodic evaluations and reports for projects.
  • Manages project portfolios in line with business strategies and in accordance with project management standards.
  • Coordinates project resources in conjunction with resource holders and other project managers.
  • Manages projects that the problem and solution are usually defined and easy to achieve.
  • Manages project quality control and assurance.
  • Establishes goals for project delivery.
  • Applies current best practices in vendor selection, contract negotiation, and project lifecycle.
  • Provides input on designated budget that usually has a minor impact on financial revenue and expenses.
  • Manages and supervises project team.
  • Defines project mission, vision, and strategic goals; aligns initiatives with unit, AgriLife, and land-grant priorities; identifies and engages key stakeholders (producers, agribusiness, policymakers, commodity groups, and peer institutions).
  • Manages multiple concurrent project portfolios using contemporary project management methodologies (Agile/Scrum when appropriate); tracks budgets, timelines, milestones, and deliverables; prepares periodic progress reports and impact evaluations for leadership and funders.
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates innovative Extension programs (workshops, short courses, field days, webinars, certificate programs, multi-state collaborations) focused on production agriculture economics, risk management, marketing, finance, and policy.
  • Creates and implements comprehensive social media strategies (X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn) to grow audience reach, engagement, and program brand recognition.
  • Produces short-form video content, infographics, podcasts, and live broadcasts.
  • Develops and maintains unit blogs, websites, newsletters, and email marketing campaigns; manages content calendars and analytics to continuously improve reach and impact.
  • Writes, edits, and produces high-quality Extension products including fact sheets, guides, popular-press articles, peer-reviewed Extension publications, grant reports, and impact statements.
  • Oversees technical editing, graphic design, layout, video production, and web development for unit publications and digital resources to ensure professional, on-brand materials.
  • Represents the unit at state and national conferences; builds collaborative relationships with other land-grant institutions, USDA-NIFA program leaders, and professional associations to elevate the program’s national profile.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
