About The Position

J.E. Shurden Construction is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee heavy civil construction projects throughout our growing multi-state operation. This position may be based in Arkansas or Mississippi and requires regular travel to active project sites throughout the company's operating region (Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas, etc). Travel frequency and duration will vary based on project needs and may include frequent overnight travel and extended stays near project locations. The Project Manager is responsible for coordinating projects from mobilization through completion, working closely with field leadership, subcontractors, vendors, customers, general contractors, and company leadership to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with project requirements.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in construction project management, assistant project management, superintendent, or comparable construction leadership role.
  • Heavy civil, infrastructure, highway, utility, earthwork, concrete, or related construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction operations and field coordination.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, contracts, and other project documents.
  • Experience coordinating field employees, subcontractors, vendors, materials, equipment, and project schedules.
  • Working knowledge of project cost management, labor tracking, scheduling, and change-order processes.
  • Strong planning, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Strong attention to project documentation and follow-through.
  • Proficiency with computers, spreadsheets, email, mobile applications, and construction/project-management software.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned construction projects from mobilization through completion and closeout.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of project plans, specifications, schedules, scope, contractual requirements, and deliverables.
  • Develop and monitor project schedules, milestones, priorities, and completion targets.
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, subcontractors, vendors, and other resources required for project execution.
  • Partner with Superintendents and Supervisors to establish field priorities and ensure crews understand project objectives.
  • Monitor project progress, productivity, labor utilization, costs, and overall performance.
  • Identify potential delays, scope concerns, cost issues, or operational challenges and proactively develop solutions.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for customers, general contractors, project representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Attend project meetings, coordination meetings, progress meetings, and jobsite walkthroughs as required.
  • Identify, document, and communicate potential change-order or out-of-scope work.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, reports, schedules, correspondence, and supporting records.
  • Coordinate project manpower needs with field leadership and company management.
  • Partner with Human Resources regarding staffing, employee performance, attendance, and other workforce matters as appropriate.
  • Promote and support company safety expectations and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Communicate project risks, delays, cost concerns, staffing needs, and other significant issues to company leadership in a timely manner.
  • Travel to active project sites and other business locations as required.
