About The Position

Fiber Project Manager Location: Mountain View, CA About Rune: Every solar and wind power plant is a latent data center. Rune connects power to the compute that needs it. Solar plants generate electricity the grid can't take: clipped by inverters, curtailed by operators, gone before it ever reaches a meter. Meanwhile, AI needs more power than new construction can deliver in time. Rune is building the fastest path to gigawatts of compute. Our product, RELIC, plugs directly into clean energy assets to deliver AI inference compute — no grid connection, no construction, and deployment in weeks. It's a radically simpler model: compute that comes online faster, costs a fraction of a traditional AI data center, and scales as fast as we can manufacture it. The Role: Rune sites are built where clean power is abundant, and connecting them to the network is a core part of what makes each one valuable. You'll own getting each RELIC deployment connected, from first route study to lit service, across projects in the US and abroad. You'll work directly with leadership, site operations, and engineering to make fast, reliable connectivity a defining strength of our fleet.

Requirements

• 5–8 years managing fiber or telecom infrastructure projects, including outside plant builds from design through turn-up.
• Experience at a data center operator, hyperscaler, or engineering and construction firm.
• A track record of delivering connectivity to remote sites on budget and on schedule.
• Technical fluency in fiber design, splicing and testing, network architecture, and diverse routing.
• Strong project and vendor management skills, including budgets, schedules, and multiple concurrent builds.
• Comfortable in the field and willing to travel about 30% of the time.
• Energized by ownership and early-stage building, with the chance to shape how Rune connects its fleet.
• Clear, thoughtful communication with vendors, partners, and teammates alike.

Responsibilities

• Own fiber connectivity for each site from scoping through turn-up: route studies, carrier outreach, permitting, testing, and handoff to operations.
• Assess connectivity options early in site selection, including lit services, dark fiber, new builds, and fixed wireless or satellite as interim or backup paths, and bring clear cost and timeline tradeoffs to leadership.
• Source and manage carriers, fiber providers, and outside plant contractors, running RFPs and comparing proposals on cost, lead time, capacity, and reliability.
• Negotiate and manage connectivity agreements in partnership with Rune's counsel, including lit service orders, dark fiber IRUs and leases, construction agreements, and SLAs.
• Design for resilience, including path diversity, redundancy, and capacity headroom to support customer uptime and connectivity commitments.
• Manage budgets, schedules, and change orders for each build, tracking costs within Rune's cost code structure and keeping finance current.
• Oversee field work on site, including installation progress, splicing, OTDR and acceptance testing, and as-built documentation.
• Coordinate with engineering and site operations so connectivity lands in step with power, hardware delivery, and customer go-live.
• Manage projects across geographies, navigating local carriers and processes.
• Build the playbook: standard designs, vendor relationships, cost benchmarks, and timelines that make each new site faster than the last.
