About The Position

Our client is a booming heavy civil construction company in Rome, NY. They provide specialty construction services to government and commercial entities nationwide. They are running about 10 projects at a time, both state and private. There is far more work available than there are construction companies to build it, so this is a chance to join a team with real momentum and long-term job security. They work with union labor. This is a hybrid role: you will estimate and bid new work, then carry the jobs you win through to closeout. If you want to see a project from the first takeoff to the final pay application, this is the position.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in estimating AND project management
  • MUST HAVE civil / heavy highway construction
  • Experience with Bid2Win and Vista, or similar estimating and project cost software is a plus

Nice To Haves

  • Degree or credentials preferred, but proven “homegrown” experience is equally welcome

Responsibilities

  • Review bid documents, plans, specs, and addenda; attend pre-bid meetings and site visits
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, drainage, utilities, and paving
  • Build estimates in Bid2Win, including labor, equipment, materials, and production rates
  • Solicit and compare subcontractor and supplier quotes
  • Prepare and submit bids for state and private work, and take part in bid reviews
  • Hand off awarded jobs: set up budgets, buy out subcontracts, and issue purchase orders
  • Manage several active projects from award through closeout, covering schedule, budget, and scope
  • Track job costs and forecasts in Vista
  • Prepare submittments, RFIs, change orders, and monthly pay applications
  • Coordinate crews, equipment, and materials with superintendents and foremen
  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers, including union labor requirements
  • Serve as the main contact for owners, engineers, and inspectors, and run progress meetings
  • Travel to in-state job sites as needed (occasional overnight stays, not often)
