About The Position

Compa Industries is searching for qualified candidates for a Project Manager 2 position supporting technology project delivery within a complex, matrixed program environment at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The Project Manager 2 will support the delivery of technology projects within a complex, matrixed program environment. This role operates under the guidance of the Program Manager and serves as a primary coordination point between functional teams, program leadership, business owners, IT staff, and vendors to ensure assigned project outcomes are achieved within scope, schedule, and budget. This is a hands-on delivery role suited for a motivated project management professional who can ramp up quickly, bring structure to busy project environments, and deliver results while maintaining alignment with program controls and governance expectations.

Requirements

  • Hands-on project management experience in an IT project delivery environment
  • Demonstrated experience scheduling and coordinating activities, preferably in a multi-organizational environment
  • Ability to manage low-to-moderate complexity projects through initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle a high-volume, busy project environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate with business owners, functional teams, IT teams, vendors, and program leadership
  • Ability to work hybrid, including telework and periodic onsite meetings in Santa Fe or TA-3 Los Alamos
  • Ability to use a private vehicle for onsite meetings as needed
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent education and experience directly related to IT project delivery may be considered.
  • 4+ years of project management experience directly related to IT project delivery; 10 years of project-related work experience is preferred for senior-level project environments.
  • Working knowledge of IT environments, software development methodologies, project delivery tools, and project management processes.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience scheduling, coordinating, and tracking project activities in a multi-team or multi-organizational environment.
  • Ability to produce professional project charters, project plans, schedules, status reports, and other technical project documents.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work under limited direction, determine approach to assigned work, and deliver completed objectives.
  • Proficiency with project management tools such as MS Project, Jira, or equivalent systems.

Nice To Haves

  • PMP, Certified Scrum Master, SAFe, Agile, or equivalent project management certification.
  • Experience working in hybrid Agile/Waterfall delivery environments.
  • Experience leading distributed or matrixed project teams across business and IT organizations.
  • Experience supporting project scheduling for IT projects.
  • Experience with technical writing, editing, formal presentations, and executive-level project reporting.
  • Knowledge of project controls, budgeting, performance measurement, cost/schedule tracking, and corrective action planning.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management System tools and processes is a plus.
  • Experience serving as or supporting a Control Account Manager is a plus.
  • Familiarity with government, federal agency, DOE, or regulated industry project environments.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and ensure timely completion of multi-discipline IT projects of low to moderate complexity and scope.
  • Provide leadership throughout the full project lifecycle using appropriate project management methodologies, tools, and processes.
  • Develop and maintain project charters, project management plans, schedules, status reports, risk/issue logs, meeting notes, and other technical project documentation.
  • Coordinate project activities across business owners, functional SMEs, IT staff, technical personnel, vendors, and program leadership.
  • Track milestones, deliverables, scope, risks, issues, dependencies, action items, and project-level decisions.
  • Monitor project performance against schedule, budget, and overall project objectives.
  • Identify deviations from the project plan and support corrective actions to keep work aligned with delivery expectations.
  • Support program governance, project controls, documentation standards, and escalation of cross-workstream or program-level impacts.
  • Partner with customers to define expectations, solve problems, establish mutual responsibilities, and support readiness and adoption.
  • Translate technical and project management concepts into accessible language for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Facilitate the transfer of operations and maintenance activities at project completion.
  • Prepare and deliver formal and informal project updates, status reports, and presentations to stakeholders and leadership.
