About The Position

The PMO Analyst plays a vital role in ensuring that project controls across the organization are efficient, accurate, standardized, and timely. Reporting directly to the Lead PMO, this position is responsible for bridging the gap between raw project data and actionable business intelligence. By leveraging technology, robust data analysis, and scheduling tools, the PMO Analyst supports project teams in monitoring schedules, budgets, and contract changes. The ideal candidate will possess a continuous improvement mindset, strong technical aptitude in data systems, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments to protect project margins and predict risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 1 to 3 years of direct experience in project controls, project scheduling, or a PMO analyst role.
  • Proven track record of building/maintaining schedules using scheduling software (MS Project/P6).
  • Advanced Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Advanced Proficiency in Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6.
  • Advanced Proficiency in data gathering, manipulation, and quantitative analysis.
  • Intermediate Proficiency in Power BI (DAX, Power Query) and Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Intermediate Proficiency in Earned Value Management (EVM) methodology.
  • Intermediate Proficiency in Budgeting, and cost variance analysis.
  • Intermediate Proficiency in Technical writing and standard operating procedure (SOP) development.
  • Working Knowledge/Novice Proficiency in ERP and CMMS Software.
  • Working Knowledge/Novice Proficiency in VBA, SQL, or other basic database query languages.
  • Working Knowledge/Novice Proficiency in Contract management practices within mining or construction.
  • Problem Solving: Uses rigorous logic and analytical methods to solve difficult problems with effective, scalable solutions.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Works cooperatively across organizational boundaries; possesses strong verbal and written communication skills to present complex data clearly.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of numerical accuracy with a strong track record of validating and auditing data quality.

  • Canadian citizen, or authorized in writing to work in Canada under federal immigration requirements, and currently be residing in Canada.

  • Prior experience in underground mining or heavy civil construction projects is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Lead PMO in ensuring project data is collected in a standardized, validated, and structured fashion to enable continuous, self-serve reporting.
  • Develop, maintain, and update Power BI reports and dashboards to translate project metrics into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual data tracking, eliminate duplication of effort, and streamline communication flows.
  • Assist in tracking compliance against budgeted objectives and monitor the usage of revised PMO processes and guidelines.
  • Maintain and update resource-loaded project schedules (using Microsoft Project or Primavera P6) from project award through to completion.
  • Track project progress, analyze critical paths, and identify potential delays or resource constraints.
  • Generate and distribute weekly/monthly schedule metrics, including Earned Value Management (EVM), Schedule Variance (SV), Cost Variance (CV), and S-Curves.
  • Proactively identify and communicate schedule risks and off-plan performance to the Lead PMO and project leadership.
  • Monitor project expenditures and commitments against the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), project budgets, and cost codes.
  • Collaborate with PMO Lead, operations, and finance to assist in building quarterly, long-term financial forecasts.
  • Support cost variance analysis, identify financial risks, and leverage financial modeling tools to forecast expected variances and rates of return.
  • Maintain the accuracy of the cost database, WBS, and cost code structures.
  • Understand contractual requirements related to project controls, change management, and project execution.
  • Assist in the development, issuance, and tracking of contract change requests to document deviations in work scope.
  • Support the Lead PMO in reviewing the value of work done (VOWD) to ensure all project costs are aligned with contract terms and prepared for auditing.
  • Collaborate with various departments to review and optimize existing standards, guidelines, and workflows.
  • Identify areas to protect project margins, predict and mitigate risks, and reduce non-value-added tasks.
  • Assist in training stakeholders on new data collection processes, Power BI reporting tools, and PMO standards.
  • Maintain the PMO governance framework, including standards, policies, and procedures to ensure consistent project execution.
  • Ensure adherence to project governance processes, stage-gate approvals, and organizational requirements.
  • Monitor governance controls to support effective oversight, accountability, and decision-making.
  • Maintain standardized project management methodologies, templates, and governance documentation across the portfolio.
  • Facilitate the governance of project changes, risks, and key decisions through defined approval processes.
  • Promote the ongoing enhancement of governance practices and project management maturity through lessons learned and best practices.
