About The Position

West Fraser's Cariboo Pulp division is seeking a Project / Maintenance Engineer. This role reports to the Engineering Superintendent and serves as a technical advisor to the Operations Superintendent. The engineer will recommend procedures, methods, materials, and specifications for equipment, aiming to reduce costs and increase productivity. They will learn and implement best practices for equipment to improve mill operations. While previous experience is preferred, junior-level applicants will be considered.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical engineering
  • Must be registered as EIT or P.Eng
  • Minimum 3-4 years of experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills, sound engineering judgement, and attention to details
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Excellent skills in all forms of communication
  • The motivation to learn new skills and advance into progressive technical/leadership roles
  • The desire to grow and succeed
  • A valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Pulp mill experience would be preferred

Responsibilities

  • Detailed engineering and project management of maintenance and capital projects
  • Major maintenance, turnaround planning, budgeting, and executing
  • Leads and manages mechanical engineering projects, ensuring compliance with safety and legislative standards
  • Act as a liaison to vendors and consultants to resolve recurring maintenance problems
  • Support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting alongside experienced engineers and technicians with a hands-on, curious mindset
  • Specify and optimize equipment to maximize reliability and performance
  • Responsible for suggesting and preparing annual & 5-year plan maintenance projects for the area
  • Oversee the pressure vessel, piping, and tank integrity program for associated equipment
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient installation of new equipment and major repairs to existing equipment, which may include boilers and auxiliary equipment
  • Experience in developing project from FEL-2 onwards
  • Knowledgeable to solve straight-forward problems within mechanical engineering and able to work with other disciplines to effectively integrate designs into systems
