Project Lead – Maritime Consortium

BMNT•Austin, VA
•$105,000 - $165,000•Hybrid

About The Position

BMNT is seeking its first maritime domain lead to run the day-to-day work of a potential second consortium modeled on SOF RACER. The consortium would rapidly prototype commercial technology for maritime needs, including undersea and seabed systems, littoral and expeditionary operations, mine countermeasures, and autonomous and robotic systems. The role connects Navy problem owners with consortium members, turning operational needs into actionable opportunities and helping companies deliver solutions. The Project Lead builds relationships with Navy program offices, laboratories, and operating units; shapes their needs into consortium problem statements; supports company onboarding and member resources; and translates between government stakeholders and entrepreneurs. The role evaluates whether problems have real users, meaningful needs, an engaged authority, and prototyping funds. It also leads industry days, curation sessions, white paper workshops, demo events, and follow-up. The position offers autonomy in a small company and requires comfort working amid ambiguity. Work is in-office or hybrid, with monthly travel, especially to government problem owners. Compensation is $105,000 to $165,000, determined by location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Requirements

  • Experience in the maritime domain, such as undersea or surface unmanned systems, mine warfare, EOD or diving, expeditionary operations, naval test and evaluation, or maritime industry.
  • Experience with government acquisition through OTAs, consortia, SBIR, accelerators, or federal business development, including earning a program manager’s trust.
  • Ability to brief Navy leaders and coach early-stage founders.
  • Comfort with autonomy and ambiguity.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Must be eligible for TS/SCI clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Active Secret clearance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with Navy program offices, laboratories, and operating units where maritime problems originate.
  • Convert government needs into problem statements that consortium members can compete to address.
  • Support rapid company onboarding and execute member resources that demonstrate consortium value.
  • Translate between operators and engineers on the government side and entrepreneurs on the industry side, maintaining confidence that needs are accurately conveyed.
  • Assess potential problems for real users, significant pain points, an authority who cares, and funding for prototyping.
  • Lead industry days, curation sessions, white paper workshops, and demo events, including follow-through afterward.
  • Ask for help early and clearly when it affects the mission.
