About The Position
The Senior Macro Conversion Engineer serves as the primary technical lead for reverse engineering Rocket terminal emulator macros or Excel-based VB macros and converting them into IBM PCOMM-based automation solutions. The role preserves business functionality, performance, and output integrity. It is remote and full-time. The position includes analyzing Rocket macro scripts and workflows, reverse engineering business logic and process dependencies, and developing reliable mainframe automation. It also involves documenting designs and macro mappings and supporting operational runbook development.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience with IBM 3270, IBM 5250, and terminal emulation platforms.
- Deep understanding of host sessions, presentation spaces, screen attributes, AID keys, and keyboard mappings.
- Strong experience with IBM Personal Communications (PCOMM), EHLLAPI, HACL, COM Automation, session profile management, and file transfer configuration.
- Advanced proficiency in VBA and VBScript.

- Experience with PowerShell.

Responsibilities
- Analyze Rocket macro scripts and workflows.
- Reverse engineer business logic and process dependencies.
- Convert Rocket macros using VBA, VBScript, PowerShell, PCOMM HACL Automation, EHLLAPI Automation, and COM Automation Solutions.
- Automate host navigation, screen recognition, protected and unprotected fields, function key processing, file transfers, multi-session operations, and batch processing.
- Replace hard-coded delays with screen-ready checks, cursor-position validation, host synchronization techniques, and field readiness validation.
- Implement logging, error handling, retry mechanisms, and recovery workflows.
- Create design documentation and macro mapping documents.
- Support operational runbook development.
