About The Position

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking a motivated Geologist or Environmental Scientist with 5 to 10 years of environmental/consulting experience, who enjoys technical challenges as well as client, regulatory agency, and public interaction. This is an opportunity to work for a multi-national firm with strong ties locally to the Minneapolis area and our robust emerging contaminants program. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical assistance for the investigation and remediation of contaminated sites in Minnesota and across the upper Midwest. The position will include a combination of field oversight and office task management responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as environmental science, environmental engineering, or geology
  • Hold licensure as a Professional Geologist in Minnesota, or possess the educational requirements to obtain licensure within 6 months of hire date
  • 5+ years of experience with environmental tasks in support of site investigation or remediation
  • Knowledge of Minnesota environmental regulations and guidance
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in the MS Office suite
  • Must be self-starter, team oriented, with strong work ethic
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented, and have excellent QA/QC skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours, as required
  • Must pass drug test, physical, and background check and must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company’s driving (Motor Vehicle Safety) policy
  • Very motivated, well organized, detail oriented and excellent troubleshooting skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with GIS, gINT, Surfer or EQuIS a plus
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Certification with current 8-hour refresher is preferred but not required - Wood will provide all necessary training for the selected candidate, as applicable

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) in accordance with applicable ASTM guidance and provisions for All Appropriate Inquiry
  • Conduct Phase II ESAs and Remedial Site Investigations including conducting field work independently and as part of a team
  • Site investigation activities may include oversight of drilling activities (direct-push technology, hollow-stem auger, rotosonic, use of hydraulic profiling tool and other methods, as applicable), and installation of monitoring wells in accordance with applicable regulatory codes
  • Conduct geologic logging in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) and/or ASTM methods, as applicable
  • Conduct sampling of various environmental media
  • Perform Regulated Materials Surveys, or hazardous building materials surveys (asbestos, lead-based paint, universal wastes, mold, etc.)
  • Collect waste characterization and bulk asbestos samples for laboratory analysis
  • Perform routine O&M of soil, groundwater and vapor treatment systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve treatment system operation malfunctions and deficiencies of LNAPL, SVE, groundwater pump and treat and sub-slab depressurization systems
  • Perform field oversight of remediation or construction subcontractors, field observations and data collection, and field sampling
  • Compile, organize, and evaluate field and laboratory data for incorporation into technical reports
  • Prepare work plans and investigation reports
  • Participate in proposal preparation and project planning including developing work scope, task-level budgets, and cost estimates; may perform calculations, gather or review information, or prepare standard sections of proposals
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites in Minnesota and out of state - Approximately 10% overnight travel
  • Strong commitment to company’s safety program; follow company safety standards, site safety standards and maintain safe workplace practices
