About The Position

The Project Superintendent is responsible for supporting the Site Manager in all aspects of the construction operations including all direct hire craft, indirect craft, and subcontractor work activities throughout the Project. The Project Superintendent is responsible for working with the other members of the construction team to finalize the construction execution plan including the detailed plan for service subcontractors, field non-manual staffing plan, temporary facilities plan, temporary utilities plan, traffic management plan, and site security plan. The Project Superintendent will work with project controls to gain a full understanding of the construction indirects schedule and cost components to help establish the method for tracking progress and performance in the field.

Requirements

  • Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of working with US Building Trade Unions
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role such as an Area Superintendent, Area Manager, Project Superintendent, and/or Deputy Site Manager required.

  • Must have knowledge and understanding of all phases of construction operations at the jobsite.
  • Must be familiar with the Bechtel Business Ethics handbook and policies.
  • Must be computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications in accordance with current BSAP standards.
  • Must be familiar with current industry quality standards and applicable code requirements.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of the formation and administration of construction subcontracts.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the Bechtel Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Core Processes and Bechtel’s “Zero Accidents” philosophy.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of Bechtel's Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs).
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAP) standards and other automation tools which are used on Bechtel projects.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing the project ES&H program and quality control program
  • Providing leadership and championing the “Zero Accidents” philosophy
  • Maintaining a positive relationship with the owner and an effective relationship with the project home office team and other functional departments
  • Supporting the development and implementation of a training program to ensure jobsite personnel receive progressive training to enable them to assume additional responsibilities
  • Ensuring all construction operations are in compliance with quality standards and that all jobsite activities are completed on schedule in accordance with the approved plan.
  • Controlling jobsite expenditures for labor, equipment, materials, and services and ensuring that field operations remain within the budgets
  • Approving the layout and locations of all temporary facilities throughout the jobsite
  • Coordinating and prioritizing the needs of the various areas for craft personnel, subcontractors, construction services, construction equipment, tools, and consumables
  • Coordinating and supporting all subcontractor work activities throughout the jobsite.
  • Resolving all jobsite craft labor relations issues and coordinating these activities with the functional industrial relations department.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of a craft skills training program including skills verification testing.
  • The physical ability to conduct field inspections which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small confined spaces.
  • Some lifting may be required
  • Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project.
  • Must be able to use appropriate standard issued personal protective equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e., body harness, life vest, etc.)
