The Project Executive (PEX) or Operations Manager (OM) role, used interchangeably, is a senior management position primarily responsible for the overall results of projects under their supervision. This role typically oversees multiple projects, ensuring their success and acting as the primary leader. The level of hands-on management varies by project needs. The PEX/OM is responsible for proper project staffing, actively participating in recruiting, and developing strategic plans for project success with adequate resources. This position serves as a liaison between operations and business development, engaging actively in both areas. A PEX/OM may manage a single large, complex project (generally over $75M) or multiple smaller projects by delegating to individual project teams. Both Superintendents and Project Management staff may report directly to the PEX/OM. The ultimate responsibility lies in taking all necessary measures to achieve project success, including quality, profitability, schedule adherence, and client satisfaction. The PEX/OM must be capable of all duties of a Senior Project Manager, having demonstrated prior success in that or an equivalent role. They should be adept at managing large, complex projects, multiple smaller projects, and leading through subordinate staff.
