Project Estimator, Industrial (Pace)

LPX GroupLouisville, KY
Onsite

About The Position

The Industrial - Project Estimator is responsible for developing estimates for industrial construction projects within active manufacturing and processing facilities, with occasional water and wastewater projects. This role is heavily focused on hard bid work, while also supporting design-build and negotiated projects that may require conceptual estimating without fully developed construction documents. The ideal candidate is capable of evaluating real-world site conditions, developing construction approaches, and building complete estimates from limited information. This position requires a high level of ownership, attention to detail, and the ability to understand how a project is actually built.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of estimating experience working for a general contractor in industrial construction environments, specifically within processing facilities.
  • Proven experience managing the full bid process from initial review through final submission, including quantity takeoffs, subcontractor coordination, and estimate development.
  • Strong expertise in estimating process mechanical systems, concrete structures, piping, and related industrial construction scopes.
  • Working knowledge of electrical and instrumentation scopes and the ability to coordinate these elements within an overall estimate.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents including plans, specifications, P&IDs, and isometric drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop accurate estimates from conceptual, schematic, and fully developed construction documents.
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, sequencing, and constructability within active industrial or processing environments.
  • Ability to identify scope gaps, assess project risks, and develop appropriate exclusions and clarifications within an estimate.
  • Experience soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and vendor pricing, with an emphasis on building and maintaining strong industry relationships.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam and Excel-based estimating, with the ability to learn and adapt to additional estimating software such as InEight.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple estimates and meet critical deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with estimating leadership, project managers, and operations teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Wastewater experience considered a plus.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred but not required based on relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work the entire life cycle of a bid from bid invitation through final proposal submission, primarily for industrial construction projects within active processing facilities and occasional wastewater projects.
  • Analyze and review construction documents including plans, specifications, addenda, P&IDs, and isometric drawings to fully understand project scope and requirements.
  • Prepare and submit estimates within complex bid forms, develop formal proposal documents, and generate clear responses and clarifications to client questions during the bidding process.
  • Identify scope of work and perform detailed quantity takeoffs for process mechanical systems, concrete structures, piping, and related industrial construction work.
  • Visit project sites, attend pre-bid meetings, and evaluate existing conditions to develop accurate estimates, including projects with incomplete or conceptual design documents.
  • Develop estimates based on means and methods, sequencing, and constructability to reflect how the project will be built in the field.
  • Solicit and review proposals from subcontractors and vendors, evaluate scope compliance, and build strong working relationships to support accurate and competitive estimates.
  • Identify scope gaps, exclusions, and potential risks within the contract documents and communicate findings to estimating leadership and project teams.
  • Collaborate with the President, VP of Estimating, Operations Managers, and Project Managers to finalize estimate strategy, including self-perform versus subcontract decisions and overall project approach.
  • Assist in developing preliminary schedules, site logistics, and sequencing plans when required to support the estimate.
  • Contribute to value engineering ideas and alternative construction approaches to improve project cost and efficiency.
  • Track and reference historical cost data where applicable to support estimate accuracy and consistency.
  • Manage multiple estimates simultaneously while maintaining a high level of organization, attention to detail, and adherence to deadlines.
  • Work independently while contributing to a team-oriented environment that values ownership, accountability, and strong communication.
