About The Position

The Project Estimation Manager will play a critical role in driving the successful development, evaluation, and implementation of renewable energy projects within the Project Estimation team, which is part of the broader Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Technical Services (EPCTS) department. The successful candidate will be a recognized subject matter expert and strategic owner of the end-to-end estimation process and will be accountable for the quality, accuracy, and strategic value of project evaluations that directly drive investment decisions, portfolio prioritization, and long-term project success. The Project Estimation Manager will lead the evaluation and aggregation of technical project assumptions for projects under development, encompassing construction and equipment costs, ongoing operational expenses, and impacts on energy production. The Project Estimation Manager will be accountable to ensure that project investment decisions are informed by the most reliable and up-to-date information available. This will include setting the analytical standard for late-stage investment decisions, proactively identifying gaps or risks in the estimation framework, and driving structural improvements across tools, processes, and cross-functional workflows with minimal direction. The Project Estimation Manager will indirectly guide the work of analysts and cross-functional contributors through coaching, technical direction, and review, without formal supervisory authority. The Project Estimation Manager will provide recommendations that inform broader EPCT department strategy. In addition to technical expertise, the Project Estimation Manager will promote efforts to enhance and standardize estimation processes, tools, and systems across the EPCT department. This will include identifying opportunities for innovation, implementing best practices, and driving cross-functional collaboration to improve efficiency, accuracy, and overall project outcomes. As a key contributor to the success of renewable energy projects, the Project Estimation Manager will serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, providing strategic insights and recommendations to optimize project feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and long-term performance. This role requires a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset and a commitment to advancing the company’s mission of delivering sustainable energy solutions. It is desired that the successful candidate also be able to provide functional coverage and technical continuity for the Senior Data Solutions Engineer during periods of absence or elevated workload demand. As such, the ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in data architecture and software engineering in addition to deep renewable energy project expertise.

  • Proficiency in SQL optimization, NoSQL databases, and distributed database architectures.
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) with professional certifications highly desired
  • Knowledge of data engineering best practices including DataOps, data quality frameworks, and metadata management.
  • Strong understanding of data security, privacy regulations, and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with Strategic Procurement, Construction, Engineering, and O&M teams to analyze project designs, costs, and energy estimates to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with market trends.
  • Challenge assumptions and methodologies to identify opportunities for cost savings, risk mitigation, and improved project outcomes.
  • Ensure the estimating process meets or exceeds the expectations of the Development, Origination, Valuations, and Project Management Teams.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the Portfolio Management team, ensuring pricing process and project assumptions are aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Define, govern, and continuously evolve estimation frameworks, assumptions hierarchies, and risk quantification methodologies to establish best practices adopted across EPCT Services.
  • Lead cross-departmental teams to identify and address project risks, including "Red-Flag" risks, and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project feasibility and success.
  • Answer questions from the project team and leadership on behalf of EPCT about what assumptions are and why they have changed.
  • Ensure project analysis and estimate complexity align with business decision needs, including late-stage development milestones such as Investment Approvals, Project Capitalization, and Final Investment Decisions (FID).
  • Understand the underlying needs of the customer and make judgments and recommendations to improve project value and outcomes.
  • Propose systemic process improvements across estimation workflows, identifying and eliminating bottlenecks and reducing internal labor costs through scalable, repeatable solutions.
  • Facilitate the adoption and integration of cutting-edge technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, to continuously drive innovation in the estimation process.
