About The Position

Arcadis is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our expanding Department of Energy design team. As a Project Environmental Engineer, you will work alongside scientists, engineers, project managers, and technical experts on various activities in support of diverse environmental assessment, remediation and deactivation and decommissioning projects. You will be involved in a mix of process-mechanical/civil engineering technical work, such as remediation system detailed design, design documentation, engineering reports, startup of new systems, task management, coordinating project work conducted out of other offices, managing subcontractors and managing project schedules and budgets. This role requires a self-starter and leadership attitude and the willingness to train and mentor junior staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical, Civil Engineering or closely related field
  • Minimum 7 years of experience

Nice To Haves

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and appropriate annual refresher certifications
  • Engineer-In-Training certification or Professional Engineering license
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Revit

Responsibilities

  • Lead remedial system design and assessments—collaborating closely with project managers and senior staff—to develop detailed design drawings (process-mechanical, PFDs, and P&IDs), technical specifications, and design calculations including basis of design, pump hydraulics, and gravity flow.
  • Undertake additional process-mechanical tasks such as excavation dewatering design, conveyance and demolition support, utility isolation and expansion, and new facility design.
  • Prepare startup plans and standard operating procedures, while delegating drafting and drawing responsibilities to junior team members to ensure project efficiency.
  • Conduct feasibility research on alternative design approaches, evaluate site conditions, and ensure adherence to regulatory agency specifications.
  • Coordinate and participate in field activities including onsite treatment system startups and engineering oversight during construction, as well as contractor and vendor supervision for site characterization, soil and groundwater sampling, well installation, and excavation oversight.
  • Travel up to 25% to support construction, startup activities, pilot testing, full-scale remedial efforts, and to engage directly with clients, technical teams, and other stakeholders through face-to-face meetings.
