The Project Engineering Manager establishes the project framework for delivering engineering and design, providing cross-discipline coordination and supervision. This role directs project execution activities and discipline deliverable creation for one large or several smaller projects, ensuring the safe, sustainable, quality, cost, and schedule delivery of all work by the engineering team.

Requirements

  • Actively licensed with a local engineering governing body where required by law.
  • Strong understanding of cross-discipline work, interfaces, and sequencing.
  • Well versed in project setup, instituting work processes, monitoring a team, execution, and closeout.
  • Skilled in estimating project costs and writing proposal content.
  • Experience in project management, risk management, quality, procurement, or construction.
  • Competent in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to organize information from many sources and retain as per the prescribed format and policies.
  • Functional awareness of cross-discipline tools.
  • Experienced in coordinating the establishment/use of integrated tools and delivering the benefits of data centric engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Support business development activities by maintaining an up-to-date personal profile and resume, building positive working relationships with external parties, and potentially networking, negotiating, and strategic alliancing. Support proposals by developing cross-discipline execution strategies, estimating and reviewing hours/costs, writing and reviewing proposal content, and presenting to customers. May lead all or part of a proposal.
  • Communicate team resource loading and skill requirements to Discipline Managers, ensuring project work coverage for absences. Mentor/train and support training delivery. Participate in employee performance reviews and facilitate coverage for departing team members. Encourage knowledge of and compliance with requirements and processes. Resolve inter-discipline, vendor, and customer issues. Ensure discipline technical work and team activities meet health, safety, environmental, and security requirements.
  • Ensure team member adherence to generally accepted engineering and design practices, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications. Support standardization of equipment specifications, drawings, and document templates. Contribute to understanding legal requirements and customer specifications. Use local/global standards to support technical excellence. Ensure checking, peer reviews, and incorporation of comments and findings.
  • Participate in project execution strategy and planning. Drive innovative solutions, technology advances, and methods to deal with working out of sequence. Own the engineering plan and project scope/cost/time requirements, ensuring discipline teams meet expectations and coordinating disciplines for project success. Support management of project change and progression for the discipline, working with other Project Management Team members to take corrective action.
  • Facilitate data gathering and preparation of engineering studies, analyses, calculations, etc. Aid recommendations and facilitate creation of final documentation. Own the system for defining technical issues with alternate solutions, establishing pros/cons, and making recommendations through official project documents. Monitor that final documentation incorporates all relevant information and customer approval is obtained. Review and authorize work done by direct reports.
  • Monitor that relevant information is incorporated into equipment/material specifications, data sheets, testing requirements, and material requisitions. Facilitate bid clarifications, bid evaluations, inter-discipline vendor information review and approval, and other certification activities. Review and authorize work done by direct reports.
  • Seek input from knowledgeable sources and monitor that constructability, operability, and maintainability reviews are incorporated into engineering/design. Work with site personnel to resolve issues. May create plans or documents supporting construction, testing, commissioning, operations, maintenance, or decommissioning. May provide or lead on-site support for construction, commissioning, or turnover.
