About The Position

Amentum is seeking a high performing Project Engineering Manager II to lead the technical execution of High Hazard / High Consequence projects. The Project Engineering Manager II is responsible for the execution of engineering activities for complex mid-to-large scale projects, maintaining a close working relationship with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Supervising Discipline Engineers, and Managing Discipline Engineers to ensure superior engineering performance. Responsible for the technical execution of projects for the Department of Energy, Department of Defense, Commercial Nuclear, and other Industrial markets, the Project Engineering Manager II applies both engineering knowledge, management and leadership skills throughout the full lifecycle of projects. The Project Engineering Manager II must possess a high aptitude for coordinating multi-disciplinary technical teams, which includes Supervising Discipline Engineers, Project Engineers / Engineering Control Account Managers, and Services Subcontracts through the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPCm) project lifecycle. On a typical day, the Project Engineering Manager II will lead either one or more Project Engineers and/or Supervising Discipline Engineers assigned to the project. Primarily inward facing to support the needs of Engineering, the Project Engineering Manager is also outward facing to the customer, helping to communicate technical objectives in a manner which is clear to both the Project Manager and the customer. As the project’s technical manager, the Project Engineering Manager II will establish a reporting structure on their project(s) that will promote open communications to ensure timely identification of challenges or issues that may pose risk to the project, the organization, and/or Amentum as a whole. The Project Engineering Manager II must demonstrate exceptional control of scope, cost and schedule, while possessing strong technical knowledge across a diverse suite of engineering disciplines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline from a four-year ABET accredited university.
  • 12+ years total engineering experience with at least 5 years of this experience in a supervisory role.
  • Must have a Professional Engineering License(s) in Good Standing, with ability to obtain licensure in various states.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required.

  • Demonstrated experience in Multi-discipline work coordination, leading technical teams in an Architectural / Engineering (AE) setting, specifically in disciplines such as Civil, Structural, Architectural, Mechanical, Chemical/Process, Electrical, Controls, Specialty Design, throughout the full EPCm lifecycle.
  • Candidate must be able to discuss past or current experience leading multi-discipline groups (example: lead a team of engineers in working groups such as Civil/Structural/Architectural, Mechanical/Piping/HVAC).

Responsibilities

  • Orchestrates the design of a technically sound, safe and operable facility with a high degree of reliability, while accountable for efficient execution of design activities to meet safety, scope, budget, schedule, and quality requirements, ensuring adherence to industry codes, regulatory requirements and sound engineering practices
  • Develops and implements the project’s technical work plan in accordance with the Statement of Work (SOW), technical and functional requirements
  • Leads multi-discipline technical coordination meetings, which includes interfaces with the customer
  • Facilitates the setup and deployment of engineering software and tools, ensuring that the technical work environments, both physical and virtual, are conducive to streamlined and efficient work execution
  • Leads planning and scheduling of engineering tasks. Coordinates Project Engineers / Control Account Managers (CAMS) and/or Supervising Discipline Engineer(s) in the development of schedule and budget to meet project requirements.
  • Promptly reviews Change Notices and assists the Project Manager in pertinent aspects of change order management.
  • Leads the technical change control process and trains others to identify potential changes.
  • Serves as direct line Manager for RFIs and supplier submittal review packages
  • Manages the coordination and delivery of Inter-Discipline and Client Design Reviews, coordinating engineering comments, approvals and requests with the functional activities of all disciplines.
  • Prepares and submits reports and forecasts on the status of Engineering and subcontractor services to the Project Manager.
  • Ensures quality, quantity and completeness of all the assigned engineering tasks.
  • Prepares and issues Engineering Execution Plans (e.g., pre-job briefs), and ensures that all necessary and appropriate customer requirements, procedures and standards are incorporated.
  • Develops plan to support procurement of all engineered items to be purchased for project
  • Reviews engineering performance on the project to ensure quality, conformance with conceptual design and completeness of engineering tasks.
  • Keeps Project Manager, Project Engineers and/or Supervising Discipline Engineers advised of project progress, performance and manpower utilization with particular attention to delays, adverse trends, errors and omissions.
