About The Position

OHLA USA is seeking a Project Engineer in San Diego, CA, to provide technical engineering and project control support on heavy civil and transportation construction projects. This role collaborates closely with the Project Manager and Construction Manager to implement policies and procedures for project success. The Project Engineer will maintain a strong understanding of contract specifications, documents, scope of work, including subcontracts and purchase orders, and will assist in developing project status reports and profit projections. This is a full-time, onsite position based out of the field office in San Diego, CA.

Requirements

  • Current California QSP (Qualified SWPPP Practitioner) certification required.
  • 3+ years of experience in construction storm water compliance, preferably on heavy civil, pipeline, grading, or public works projects.
  • Knowledge of California Construction General Permit requirements and BMP implementation.
  • Experience with SMARTS reporting and storm water documentation.
  • Ability to read construction plans and specifications.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Valid California driver license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience on public works or heavy civil construction projects.
  • QSD certification preferred but not required.
  • Experience with dewatering compliance and water discharge permits preferred.
  • PE license
  • advanced engineering degrees

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foreman and Crews on Project Deliverables.
  • Process/manage material deliveries – ensure that materials received are properly inspected for quantity and quality and are in compliance with contract documents.
  • Manage and negotiate subcontractor and material contracts.
  • Assist in developing and updating the project schedule.
  • Coordinate and schedule shop drawings and submittals.
  • Maintain a complete and current record of submittals, approvals and resubmittals, including a file of letters of transmittal and dates of each transaction.
  • High level of involvement in the operations of our cost control system and analysis of construction costs.
  • Participate in monthly forecasting revenue and cost accruals.
  • Accumulate all necessary data and prepare monthly pay estimates.
  • Process and estimate change orders and requests for information as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Follows OHL North America policies and procedures, including safety policies.
