About The Position

Inland Empire Paper Company seeks an experienced Engineer to join their Mill Production Leadership team. This role involves defining, designing, and managing engineering projects for equipment and infrastructure, including budget and time management, and overseeing contractors. The engineer will also be responsible for process optimization, developing and upgrading processes to maximize capacity utilization, minimize cost, increase performance, and maintain environmental protection. This includes conducting process development experiments, researching potential technology, and supervising implementation. Furthermore, the Project Engineer will act as a facilitator, working closely with the mill leadership group, department superintendents, supervisors, and operators to provide daily manufacturing technical support, troubleshooting, and problem-solving to improve production efficiencies, output, and plant safety.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years field/plant work.
  • Strong analytical skills to organize, interpret and draw conclusions from data.
  • Ability to communicate diplomatically and effectively with plant operations, maintenance and/or technical advisors, outside vendors, suppliers and consultants to solve problems and execute solutions.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle overall management of engineering projects.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, engineering software (AutoCAD or similar).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills especially related to change management.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience with distributed control systems (DCS) helpful.
  • Knowledge of pulp and paper manufacturing desired.

Responsibilities

  • Define, design and manage engineering projects for equipment and infrastructure including developing and reporting on budget elements and time management; oversee contractors/workers for efficient project performance; accountable for budget.
  • Develop/upgrade processes to maximize capacity utilization, minimize cost and increase performance while maintaining environmental protection; includes conducting process development experiments, research and assessment of potential technology, supervising implementation.
  • Works closely with the mill leadership group including Maintenance Manager, department superintendents and supervisors as well as operators to provide daily manufacturing technical support, trouble shooting and problem solving to improve production efficiencies, output and safety of plant.
