About The Position

The Project Engineer will be responsible for conducting hydraulic studies, developing project scopes, schedules, and budgets, and managing projects during construction. This role involves coordinating with internal departments and external agencies, preparing project documentation, and ensuring compliance with technical standards and company policies. The Project Engineer will also be involved in contract administration and maintaining professional competency through continuous learning and development. Additionally, there is a possibility of rotating to other engineering positions and participating in an on-call rotation for operational needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Environmental Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Three (3) years of experience in design and construction.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in the design and construction of water or wastewater facilities or equivalent utility or process facilities.
  • Currently registered and in good standing as a Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, or registered in another state and able to obtain registration in Kentucky.
  • Alternatively, have successfully passed the Professional Engineer’s Exam and awaiting licensure.
  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Experience with KY Pipe 2010 and InfoWater software modeling programs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct hydraulic studies using software modeling programs such as KY Pipe 2010 and InfoWater to analyze impacts of proposed projects and operational changes, and to troubleshoot distribution system problems.
  • Develop and refine preliminary project scope, schedule, and budget, and recommend changes to maintain projects within resource limits.
  • Coordinate planning and completion of projects internally with operations/maintenance and planning, and externally with utilities, governmental agencies, neighborhoods, and customers.
  • Prepare preliminary, in-progress, and final plans, specifications, and cost estimates for projects, or supervise staff/consultants in their preparation.
  • Approve final plans by stamping Professional Engineering (P.E.) seal and signing plans prepared under direction, or by providing guidance and recommendations for plans completed by supervised staff or consultants.
  • Provide clear and concise contract documents that incorporate technical standards, in-house procedures, and policies, while meeting company procurement and capital project authorization requirements.
  • Manage projects during construction within budget, negotiate change orders, and submit Change Actions to adjust project budgets.
  • Resolve technical, contractual, and customer service issues efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Possess a basic knowledge of contracts and agreements to prepare, interpret, and administer them when working with various external entities.
  • Maintain professional competency through self-education and attendance at seminars, training sessions, and professional organization meetings.
  • Maintain in-house competency through attendance at sponsored training opportunities.
  • Be available to rotate to other facilities and engineering positions to gain experience.
  • Participate in a 2-3 year rotation with on-call responsibilities every 4-6 weeks to respond to operational needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
