About The Position

Primoris Heavy Civil is seeking a highly motivated Project Engineer to join our heavy highway construction team for our Houston, TX office. The Project Engineer will support the project management team in planning, coordinating, and executing various phases of highway and infrastructure projects. This role involves assisting in cost control, scheduling, document management, subcontractor coordination, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 0-3 years of experience in heavy civil construction or a related industry.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and construction practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and project documents.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various job sites in the Houston, TX area and surrounding regions as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Primavera P6, HCSS HeavyJob, Bluebeam) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Managers and Superintendents in daily project operations, including scheduling, cost tracking, and quality control.
  • Prepare and review project documentation, including submittals, RFIs (Requests for Information), change orders, and progress reports.
  • Conduct site visits to monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and ensure compliance with project specifications and safety regulations.
  • Support the procurement process by assisting with vendor selection, material requisitions, and tracking deliveries.
  • Collaborate with design teams, subcontractors, and clients to resolve technical issues and ensure effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in project meetings, taking minutes and tracking action items.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of project schedules, ensuring critical path activities are identified and managed.
  • Contribute to the preparation of project closeout documents, including as-builts and operation manuals.
  • Support the implementation of safety programs and ensure adherence to all safety protocols on site.
  • Perform quantity take-offs and assist with cost estimates for various project elements.
