The Project Engineer role is based in Sumner, WA, and is responsible for utility engineering within distribution and transmission teams, utilizing drafting and design programs like PLS-CADD/AutoCAD to meet client standards. The role involves working within different groups such as Transmission, Joint Facilities Notification (JFN), Cable Replacement and Maintenance, and the Overloaded Transformer Elimination Program (OTEP).

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree (BS) in Engineering, Construction Management or related field from accredited educational institution OR 4-6 years related experience and/or training in lieu of education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1+ years of power utility industry experience or related field.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, with strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals and information, journals, technical procedures, and data.
  • Ability to write business correspondence and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other managers, clients, customers, and local permitting agencies.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as those commonly found in business transactions.
  • Ability to create and explain financial models and forecasts.
  • Ability to apply basic algebra, geometry, and engineering principals.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with PLS-CADD or other CAD software

Responsibilities

  • Provides electric utility engineering for operation and maintenance projects, including interpretation and development of distribution designs congruent with utility standards.
  • Performs pole line analysis on existing or new transmission/distribution structures in relation to scope of work, using pole line analysis tools to assess structural integrity and maintain clearances.
  • Calculates and drafts designs, incorporating understanding of voltage regulation, electrical load calculations, system protection, and fuse coordination for distribution systems.
  • Inputs bill of materials for assigned scope of work.
  • Manages the project life cycle using work order management systems.
  • Assists the utility engineering team by performing field visits to gather information.
  • Performs administrative functions and other tasks as needed.
