About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to lead and coordinate medium to large-scale hardware development projects on both commercial and military programs, in the aerospace industry, from initiation through completion. This role is responsible for managing cost, schedule, technical execution, and cross-functional alignment across engineering, production, and program leadership teams. The ideal candidate will ensure successful delivery of complex projects over multi-year timelines while maintaining quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction objectives.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field
  • Prior experience managing cross-functional engineering teams and production coordination

Responsibilities

  • Provide clear, concise, and confident communication with peers, Collins leadership and customers regarding project status, risks, and decisions.
  • Oversee and coordinate administrative and operational aspects of ongoing engineering projects within established program guidelines.
  • Lead project planning activities, including development of integrated master schedules, budgets, and execution strategies.
  • Estimate, track, and manage project budgets and schedules using Earned Value Management System (EVMS) principles and decision-making.
  • Create schedules and cost estimates for new business proposals and program development efforts.
  • Conduct regular project meetings, consolidating and presenting progress reports, risks, and business performance updates.
  • Identify project issues, assess impacts, and develop mitigation plans including resource reallocation plans.
  • Pursue cost-saving opportunities to maximize project profitability and efficiency.
  • Monitor project performance against cost, schedule, and technical requirements; recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Coordinate hardware development configurations throughout the engineering lifecycle, ensuring alignment across teams.
  • Manage and coordinate hardware equipment modifications and engineering change processes.
  • Facilitate gated design and program reviews to ensure schedule adherence and execution efficiency.
  • Liaise between project management, planning teams, engineering groups, and production line management.
  • Verify execution of internal processes to minimize engineering risks and prevent program setbacks.
  • Read, interpret, and provide markup of engineering drawings; coordinate drawing releases and updates.
  • Understand and execute test procedures; analyze, interpret, and report test results supporting product validation.
  • Develop and document test procedures and formal test reports for verification of product requirements.
  • Document best practices and contribute to engineering standard work and process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with program schedules, budgets, and quality standards throughout project execution.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required (25%).
  • Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, often spanning multiple years to completion.
