About The Position

Northrop Grumman's Space Sector is seeking a Project Engineer – Level 3 or Level 4 in Promontory, UT. This role is crucial for missions of paramount importance, focusing on defining the art of the possible. The Project Engineer will be responsible for the establishment and execution of all technical aspects of Development, Qualification, and Production of a Hypersonic rocket motor. This includes managing technical products and aspects related to design, engineering & manufacturing development (EMD), qualification, and follow-on production phases. The role may also involve scaling up products, processes, tooling, and facilities for both low rate and high rate production. This fast-paced development program offers the opportunity to work with various resources, teams, and divisions, witnessing the entire engineering lifecycle of programs. There are currently three potential Project Engineer job openings, depending on candidate interests and abilities. The preferred location is Promontory, UT, with potential consideration for Magna, UT; Clearfield, UT; or Hill Air Force Base, UT. This position works a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. Please note that this position is contingent upon program award(s) and obtaining/maintaining associated business and/or customer funding, as well as obtaining and maintaining required security clearances and program access.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (STEM) with 5 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 3 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 1 year of professional experience.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance
  • Ability to perform solid modeling using NX
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
  • Ability to work with energetic materials as a U. S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, firearms and explosives; “Employee Possessor” – required.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong understanding and broad application of PS engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.) or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in generating technical solutions in the absence of complete customer requirements
  • Management of engineering scope as it pertains to budgeting and participation in EVMS evaluations
  • Experience with the proposal process
  • Knowledge and experience in System Engineering tools and disciplines
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and design for manufacturability

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates across IPTs with fellow PEs on design, process, and quality of the product
  • Develop program execution plans and works closely with the Program Office
  • Interface with Customer regularly as the technical POC
  • Work with a wide range of positions both within and outside of NGC
  • Supports production operations (manufacturing and quality)
  • Development, coordination, and allocation of requirements
  • Assemble and develop efficient cross functional teams to execute plans
  • Identify design concepts and mature into design solutions that meet the customer needs
  • Develop master schedules, integrated logic flows, work breakdown, and assist in program cost estimates
  • Coordination and implementation of design and analysis activities
  • Development of test plans and coordination of testing with test engineers
  • Identification of risks/mitigations and tracking to closure in Risk Tracker
  • Lead the coordination and conducting of milestones reviews to Senior Leadership and Customers
  • Lead problem and failure investigations
  • Write technical reports
  • Presentations – internal and external
  • Other duties as assigned
