We are seeking a Dynamic Positioning Project Engineer (m/f/d) to join our US-based engineering team in either San Diego, CA or New Orleans, LA. In this role, you will support the engineering, design, and delivery of Dynamic Positioning (DP) solutions for newbuild and retrofit projects across naval, offshore, cruise, commercial, and special-purpose vessels. Working closely with Project Managers, Service Engineers, customers, and regulatory authorities, you will contribute to the successful execution of technically advanced DP projects while developing your expertise within a collaborative international environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or an equivalent technical background.
  • Experience in electrical engineering, automation, marine systems, or Dynamic Positioning is an advantage; candidates with a strong technical foundation and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and control systems.
  • Knowledge of programming concepts and control theory.
  • Experience with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, SolidWorks, MATLAB, or Visual Studio is beneficial.
  • Experience with PLC systems, network interfaces, or algorithm development is considered an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach to technical challenges.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while working in a dynamic project environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across international teams.
  • Self-driven, proactive, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites, shipyards, and vessels as required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Dynamic Positioning system designs and technical documentation for a variety of vessel types, including offshore, wind farm, naval, cruise, commercial, and mega yacht applications.
  • Support the engineering, integration, and delivery of DP control systems throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Act as the primary technical contact for customers during project execution, working closely with the Project Manager on both technical and commercial aspects.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and field service teams during system integration, testing, and project execution.
  • Provide engineering support for technical issues, troubleshooting, and performance analysis from the office and, when required, onboard vessels.
  • Work closely with Service Engineers to resolve technical issues and prepare reports, studies, and engineering documentation.
  • Support commissioning activities, including DP system calibration, control system tuning, Customer Acceptance Tests (CAT), and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), when required.
  • Prepare and maintain high-quality engineering documentation and project deliverables.
  • Coordinate with classification societies and regulatory authorities to obtain approvals and certifications for DP systems.
  • Ensure engineering solutions comply with customer requirements, industry standards, and applicable maritime regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management, and Service.
  • Contribute to technical standardization, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support the optimization of engineering processes and project execution methods.
