About The Position

The purpose of this role is to develop well-rounded future talent with construction expertise across multi-disciplines – ultimately creating professionals with experience in the full scope of construction management. Specifically, this role assists and supports Field Operations and/or Estimating functions in achieving their respective goals and objectives. This role contributes to several facets of construction (project management, field operations, estimating). Essential duties and responsibilities include actively supporting estimating and field operation goals and objectives through completing technical/administrative projects on time, providing ongoing support, and proactively resolving challenges and issues. The role uses customer feedback to make improvements to day-to-day processes and procedures, collaborates across departments, and supports consistent Field Operations and Estimating practices and administrative procedures. It adheres to policies, procedures, and standards that protect the company’s interests and promotes Teichert Construction values including diversity, teamwork, fair work environment, and respect of others. The role maintains a "team" spirit within the business unit and works and cooperates with other disciplines. It uses resources effectively and efficiently and promotes the community perception of Teichert. In the Technical/Specialty Area, the role assists in achieving a zero-injury culture through supporting Teichert’s Injury Prevention and Safety program and active participation in safety meetings and training sessions. It proactively identifies and communicates safety improvements and hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions. Assignments and tasks are completed on time, accurately, and meet customer expectations. The role collaborates with Project Managers, Superintendents, and/or Estimators in circumventing and resolving problems, and ensures adherence to company/project policies, procedures, work rules, schedules, and standards, and monitors work performance and productivity of Craft labor. Support is provided in coordinating resources for assigned projects. The role may independently identify problems pertaining to labor, equipment, and materials for accuracy and makes suggestions or implements solutions; coordinate subcontractors and suppliers; order and schedule material; and/or build GPS models. It assists Estimators in performing material takeoffs by validating work and exercising discretion and judgment with resolving miscalculations. Occasionally, it may gather, calculate, and compile data for bid proposal estimates and develop guidelines for future estimates through researching historical data. Accurate estimates are prepared as required, exercising discretion and independent judgment in reviewing proposal specifications and drawings. The role determines required contents of estimates and evaluates historical data to project unit and man-hour figures. Positive working relationships are built and maintained with internal and external customers. Company and project policies, procedures, and standards are communicated. A favorable impression of the company is maintained with external customers. Internal administrative responsibilities and documentation are completed, including project logs, files, records, reports, and estimates. Diaries, submittals, RFIs, contracts, permits, price quotes, purchase orders, work orders, invoices, traffic control plan design, and quantity take-off materials are developed and created. Written Construction Program guidelines relating to Teichert policies are assisted in developing. Ownership is taken for managing career, professional growth, and contribution to Teichert Construction. Close work is done with engineering services, field operations, and/or estimating on work performance and productivity, gaining exposure and contributing to multiple areas of the company. Personal and professional goals and objectives are communicated, with the ultimate result of progressing from a Project Engineer into an Engineering Services, Field Operations, or Estimating role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, (or related field) or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background investigation
  • Valid Driver’s License and the ability to obtain and maintain the required company auto insurance limits.
  • Current on all company required safety training
  • Ability to preserve confidential and proprietary information and successfully avoid conflicts-of-interest
  • Knowledge of drafting and ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Ability to utilize computer aided systems and equipment to calculate material quantity requirements
  • Knowledge of project management software and/or estimating software
  • Working knowledge of construction equipment, materials, techniques, and required standards applicable to discipline

  • Assists Estimators in performing material takeoffs via validating work submitted by Take-Off Techs and exercising discretion and judgment with resolving miscalculations and/or job related issues.
  • Occasionally may gather, calculate, and compile data for uses in bid proposal estimates for one or more disciplines.
  • May develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates through researching historical data and compiling summary reports.
  • Accurately prepares estimates, as required.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgement in reviewing proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope.
  • Determines required contents of estimates and evaluates historical data in order to project unit and man hour figures.
  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
