Overview: The Project Engineer I will play a key role in supporting project management activities, including project planning, design coordination, procurement, and construction oversight. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity for growth and development within the structural steel fabrication and erection industry. Candidates with structural steel fabrication, steel erection, detailing, or heavy industrial construction experience are strongly preferred. This position requires the willingness and ability to travel to project sites as needed.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field preferred.
0-3 years of experience in construction, structural steel fabrication, steel erection, project engineering, or a related field preferred.
Experience with structural steel fabrication, steel erection, steel detailing, connection design coordination, or structural steel construction is preferred.
Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, erection drawings, and project specifications.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar construction management software is preferred.
Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments.
Must be willing and able to travel to project sites throughout the United States as required.
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Entry-level candidates or recent graduates are encouraged to apply; relevant internship or work experience in structural steel fabrication, steel erection, construction, or project engineering is preferred.
Experience with structural steel fabrication, steel erection, steel detailing, shop drawings, erection drawings, or related construction activities is preferred.
Strong technical aptitude and understanding of structural engineering principles, construction methods, structural steel systems, and applicable building codes.
Ability to read and interpret project drawings, specifications, shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and erection plans.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Tekla, or similar construction software is a plus.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, subcontractors, and external stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Must be willing and able to travel to project sites as required.

Responsibilities

Assist project managers in developing project plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring alignment with project objectives and client requirements.
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors, to facilitate project execution and ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
Review project drawings, specifications, and design documents to identify potential issues, conflicts, or discrepancies, and collaborate with design teams to resolve technical challenges.
Assist in the coordination of structural steel design and detailing activities, including review of shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and erection plans.
Support the review and processing of RFIs, submittents, revisions, and change documentation.
Support procurement activities, including material take-offs, vendor inquiries, and purchase order processing, to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of materials and equipment for projects.
Coordinate with procurement teams and suppliers to expedite delivery of materials, resolve material-related issues, and maintain accurate inventory records.
Track material deliveries, fabrication schedules, and project procurement milestones.
Assist in construction oversight activities, including site visits, inspections, and coordination with construction teams to monitor progress, resolve field issues, and ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
Conduct quality assurance checks and inspections of structural steel components, ensuring compliance with fabrication and erection requirements, industry standards, and regulatory codes.
Support field teams in resolving construction and installation challenges while maintaining project schedule and quality objectives.
Maintain accurate project documentation, including project files, drawings, specifications, correspondence, RFIs, submittals, and change orders, ensuring completeness, organization, and accessibility of project records.
Prepare and distribute project reports, progress updates, and meeting minutes to project teams, stakeholders, and management, providing timely and relevant information on project status, issues, and risks.
Assist with project closeout activities, including as-built documentation, punch list tracking, and turnover packages.
Track project costs, schedules, procurement status, and material deliveries to support successful project execution.
