About The Position

Powers & Sons Construction is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Engineer to support our Gary office operations and active construction projects throughout the region. The Project Engineer plays a key role in coordinating project documentation, communication, scheduling, procurement, and field support to help ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This position is ideal for a construction professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, communicates effectively with field and office teams, and is eager to grow within a collaborative construction organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred.
  • 1–5 years of construction industry experience preferred.
  • Internship or co-op experience in commercial or industrial construction is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, or similar platforms is preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with both field and office personnel.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
  • Takes initiative and ownership of their responsibilities.
  • Is eager to learn and grow within the construction industry.
  • Values teamwork, accountability, and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with daily project operations.
  • Maintain and track project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, meeting minutes, and project logs.
  • Coordinate communication between owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Support project startup, closeout, and turnover processes.
  • Help maintain project schedules and monitor milestone progress.
  • Assist with procurement and material tracking.
  • Participate in project meetings and document action items.
  • Conduct site visits to monitor project progress and support field coordination.
  • Help ensure work is performed in accordance with plans, specifications, safety standards, and company expectations.
  • Coordinate with field personnel to resolve project issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Assist in identifying and documenting potential schedule or cost impacts.
  • Support quality control and punch list activities.
  • Assist with budget tracking, cost reporting, and project forecasting.
  • Support subcontract management processes including buyout, billing, and closeout documentation.
  • Review invoices, delivery tickets, and subcontractor paperwork for accuracy.
  • Help prepare owner pay applications and change order documentation.
  • Maintain organized project files and records.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety across all project activities.
  • Support compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Assist with maintaining required project documentation and reporting.
