About The Position

GFT is seeking a Project Engineer to join its Transportation Team in Downtown Chicago or Schaumburg, Illinois. The position follows a hybrid work model and requires regular attendance at one of those offices. The engineer will join the roadway group and work on Phase I and Phase II projects, contributing to transportation infrastructure design and multidisciplinary roadway projects. The role involves preparing plans and performing engineering design work, including quantity calculations, geometric design, pavement marking and signing, drainage design, traffic studies, traffic signal design, public involvement, report writing, specifications, and cost estimates. The engineer may work independently and manage engineers and technicians under the direction of a team leader and project manager. Depending on experience, the role may also include project manager or deputy project manager responsibilities. The successful candidate will analyze information and data for routine design tasks; ensure the accuracy, quality, and timely delivery of engineering plans; research design options; and document findings for a Senior Project Engineer. The engineer may make independent decisions on engineering problems and methods, represent the organization in some meetings, coordinate work, and keep the Project Manager informed about workload and changes to project schedules, scope, or additional services. The position uses OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, GEOPAK, MS Office, and other design software. GFT is a privately held AEC firm with more than 5,000 employees. It describes its work as connecting transportation, water, power, and buildings through the “Infrastructure of Life,” with a focus on strong relationships, resilient and sustainable design, and better communities.
