About The Position

We are seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support the successful delivery of commercial electrical construction projects for a well-established electrical contractor in the Detroit market. Working alongside Project Managers, Superintendents, and field personnel, this role assists with project coordination from preconstruction through closeout while helping ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The successful candidate will receive mentorship from experienced project leaders while gaining hands-on experience with complex commercial projects and a defined path toward Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager roles. Projects include healthcare, higher education, institutional, manufacturing, industrial, and other large-scale commercial facilities.

Requirements

2+ years of experience in commercial construction, project engineering, or electrical construction.
Working knowledge of commercial electrical systems, installation methods, construction sequencing, and field operations.
Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, scheduling, and construction documentation.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
Willingness to travel to project sites throughout the Detroit metropolitan area.

Nice To Haves

Experience working for a commercial electrical contractor or specialty electrical subcontractor is preferred.
Experience supporting healthcare, higher education, institutional, manufacturing, industrial, or other complex commercial projects is preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist Project Managers with planning, coordinating, and executing commercial electrical construction projects from start to finish.
Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, transmittals, procurement logs, and other project documentation.
Review electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, and scopes of work for accuracy and completeness.
Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and general contractors to ensure smooth project execution.
Track material procurement, equipment deliveries, long-lead items, and project milestones.
Support project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, billing, and financial reporting.
Participate in project meetings, site visits, and coordination meetings while assisting with issue resolution.
Collaborate with estimating and BIM/VDC teams to improve constructability and project coordination.
Maintain organized project files, meeting minutes, document control, and project correspondence.
Assist with material takeoffs, procurement planning, commissioning activities, project logistics, and closeout documentation.
Help resolve scheduling, procurement, and field coordination challenges to keep projects progressing efficiently.
Ensure compliance with company standards, contract requirements, and project safety objectives.
