About The Position

TRC, Member of WSP, is a global consulting environmental and engineering firm seeking an experienced Project Engineer (Solid Waste) to join their Southeast ECC division. The position is based out of one of their Virginia or North Carolina locations. The role offers opportunities for engineering design, including detail preparation, land grading, stormwater calculations, report writing, permit application preparation, and construction quality control. Projects encompass the design and permitting of various waste management facilities such as landfills, transfer stations, convenience centers, recycling facilities, and composting operations. Requirements

  • 5-10 years of solid waste experience.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) required; Virginia required within six months.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent technical/computer skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Nice To Haves

  • North Carolina PE preferred.
  • North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida PE licenses are a plus and may be required in the future.
  • Experience in site planning, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, drainage design, grading plans.
  • Experience in Landfill permitting.
  • Experience in Stormwater design.
  • Experience in Wetland permitting.
  • Experience in Leachate system design, management, and treatment.
  • Experience in Landfill gas collection and control system design including active gas systems, management, blower/flair station, plant operations system troubleshooting and well field tuning, title V emissions reporting.
  • Experience in Facility siting, design, and construction management for: landfills, transfer stations, convenience centers, materials recovery facilities, composting facilities.
  • Experience in Landfill capacity analysis.
  • Experience in Facility / landfill financial assurance.
  • Experience in Odor assessment and mitigation, tracer gas studies, ambient air monitoring.
  • Experience in Solid waste facility operations.
  • Experience in Construction management and quality assurance.
  • Experience in Design of landfill based renewable energy systems including solar and wind energy, landfill gas to energy-to-energy systems.
  • Experience in Other waste to energy technologies including anaerobic digestion and biogas.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering design, team support, and project management on a variety of waste resources engineering projects.
  • Focus on landfill design, landfill gas systems, landfill leachate systems, construction planning and oversight, landfill closure, landfill operations, landfill post closure care, transfer station design, MRF design, and recycling centers.
  • Provide opportunities for engineering design including detail preparation, land grading, stormwater calculations, report writing, permit application preparation and construction quality control.
  • Mentor and train junior staff.
