S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Engineering Services and Grid Enablement function. As a Project Engineer, you’ll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team. The Project Engineer will be responsible for leading engineering efforts, electrical system design, power system controls design and programming, preparing specifications and commissioning efforts to meet the requirements of various microgrid and advanced SCADA projects. The role will be a combination of power system engineering, SCADA engineering and microgrid control applications. Projects include commercial and industrial facilities, renewable energy sites, microgrid systems, distribution automation systems and standalone islanded systems. The candidate is expected to provide support on proposal development and assist the commercial team with new business opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical field plus 6-10 years of experience in the field.
  • Depth of knowledge with SCADA systems and communication protocols Modbus and DNP3.
  • Knowledge of codes and standards including NEC, NESC and other relevant power system standards.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience commissioning power system projects.
  • Experience with electrical power generation, distribution and/or microgrids.
  • Familiarity with substation IEDs.
  • Strong hands-on debugging capability on hardware; strong system level integration ability.
  • Able to travel to project and/or customer sites up to 20% of the time, with occasional trip durations exceeding 7 days.
  • Good interpersonal skills to establish meaningful relationships built on mutual trust and respect, navigate and resolve conflict, moderate behaviors and foster collaborative working relationships amongst a diverse audience.
  • Good communication skills (written, verbal, listening and presentation).
  • Able to liaise with key stakeholders in technical and non-technical roles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) including excellent Excel skills and experience using Power BI or a related tool.

  • Master's Degree in Engineering or a related technical field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Responsibilities

  • Design power distribution systems, including specifying and selecting power system and communication system equipment.
  • Interpret written scopes of work, communicate with clients to understand requirements and clearly define engineering work.
  • Develop electrical drawings including one-line, three-line, communication and wiring diagrams.
  • Document and communicate effectively to internal and external stakeholders including report writing and summary presentations.
  • Design control systems and logic, including determining and implementing appropriate control sequences.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineers within the project teams to ensure design standards and work practices are implemented.
  • Develop standard work practices for use by other project team members.
  • Develop settings for and program microprocessor relays, microgrid controllers and programmable logic controllers.
  • Test and commission software, communication systems, relays and power systems (on-site or remote support).
  • Interpret and apply industry standards and requirements including NERC, FERC, IEEE, IEC standards and international power markets processes and regulations.
