The Sales/Applications Engineer will serve as the primary engineering resource for dealer inquiries regarding truck applications and unique configurations, identifying and delivering buildable solutions, assisting with custom solutions, and supporting design and manufacturing engineering with the voice of the customer and dealer. This role involves responding to dealer inquiries, reviewing custom design requests, providing engineering support for application programs, and traveling to customer and dealer locations for sales support, order reviews, and training. The position also contributes technical knowledge for dealer training and supports marketing events and trade shows.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science (BS) degree required; BSME or BSEE preferred.
• 5-7+ years of experience required.
• Heavy truck industry experience or related field knowledge required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must; customer service oriented.
• Competency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-task environment.
• General knowledge of truck or automotive systems/components and how they function/interact.
• Mechanical and/or electrical experience and aptitude.
• Project support and leadership for small to moderate size projects, including customer requests, process improvements, and product development support.
• Understanding the basic principles of computer/application program operation and willingness to support maintenance of existing applications and development of new processes and applications.
• Will also occasionally work with factory and IT groups.

Nice To Haves

• Fundamentals of engineering (FE) or professional engineer (PE) license desired.
• Six Sigma experience desired (i.e. DFSS, Green Belt, Black Belt).
• Field service experience desired.
• Knowledge of Lean fundamentals and continuous improvement techniques a plus.
• Experience with Creo or other CAD platforms is desired.
• Working knowledge with Salesforce CRM, Tableau, SQL databases and cloud computing a plus.

Responsibilities

• Be the primary engineering resource for dealers' questions regarding truck applications and unique configurations.
• Identify and deliver buildable solutions, drive new option content, and assist with custom solutions to meet challenging customer expectations.
• Respond to dealer inquiries regarding truck specifications and performance.
• Support design and manufacturing engineering on specific project designs, providing the voice of the customer and dealer.
• Answer dealers' telephone inquiries, email, job requests, and option approval requests (OARs).
• Review and coordinate the development of custom design requests.
• Provide engineering support of PremierSpec, Databook, and application programs.
• Travel to customer and dealer locations to provide sales support, truck order reviews or training (typically 5-10% per year).
• Provide technical knowledge and content for dealer training and other Kenworth training courses.
• Occasionally travel to support marketing events and industry trade shows.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
