About The Position

The Lockheed Martin Space Operations team is seeking a Project Engineer focused on Process Modeling & Simulation to support Digital Transformation efforts. This role will contribute to streamlining existing processes, optimizing cycle times, reducing errors, lowering costs, and improving customer satisfaction, aligning with the business strategy. The Operations organization is a large group of dedicated professionals supporting all Space programs and products, from supply chain management to hardware production, testing, and delivery. This role is crucial for enhancing productivity and making a tangible difference in the delivery of mission-critical hardware.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM field.
  • 1+ years of experience in manufacturing, process engineering, or operations modeling.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US SECRET clearance.
  • Must successfully pass a drug and background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Experience developing process flow diagrams and analyzing production systems.
  • Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles, including process mapping.
  • Hands-on experience with discrete event simulation tools (e.g., Simio, Process Simulator, Arena, FlexSim).
  • Experience working across multiple facilities or with external suppliers.
  • Familiarity with production planning, supply chain modeling, or capacity analysis.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and optimization techniques.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Python, or similar).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to facilitate structured discussions and extract process knowledge from diverse teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective relationship-building skills with peers, leadership and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated exceptional strategic communication skills, both written, verbal, and presentation, to effectively communicate business cases to all levels of peers, and stakeholders, as well as program executives, with an ability to persuade and motivate action.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate cross-functional workshops with support teams (operations, supply chain, quality, etc.) to document current-state and future-state processes (VSM/PFD).
  • Regularly engage with internal stakeholders to understand their analysis needs.
  • Build, validate, and maintain discrete event simulation (DES) models of manufacturing processes and supply chain flows.
  • Deploy and support the use of modeling and simulation to the facility level.
  • Conduct “what if” scenarios, and identify capacity constraints and bottlenecks.
  • Present findings, recommendations, and trade-offs to stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Work closely with production leadership to provide actionable insights.
