About The Position

Ramboll is seeking a Controls & Automation Project Engineer to join their Process Control & Data Solutions (PCDS) team. This role will support all aspects of control system lifecycles across diverse industries and client systems. The engineer will be responsible for leading design efforts, programming PLCs and HMIs, configuring industrial networks and hardware, commissioning and troubleshooting systems, creating documentation, and assisting with project management. The position also involves contributing to organizational improvement by promoting department standards and mentoring junior engineers.

Requirements

  • B.S. or greater in relevant engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in control system integration and SCADA programming.
  • Knowledge and programming experience on the Rockwell Automation Logix 5000 platform.
  • Experience programming HMI/SCADA; Inductive Automation’s Ignition is a must.
  • Experience configuring industrial networking systems and related hardware (primarily Ethernet-based).
  • Experience configuring computers, workstations, or servers in control systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in either Process Control or Machine Control.
  • Knowledge of control system design, including electrical principles and hardware design.
  • An adaptable disposition and a general excitement towards learning new technologies in diverse industries.

Nice To Haves

  • Years of experience may offset educational requirements.
  • Experience with multiple PLC platforms (Rockwell Automation Logix 500, GE, Siemens, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience with multiple HMI/SCADA platforms (Rockwell Automation, Wonderware, GE, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience with both Process Control and Machine Control is a plus.
  • Experience with virtual machines, MES, Linux, Hyper-V, ESXi, SQL, Python, C#, Java, cybersecurity or AutoCAD Electrical is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead hands-on, detailed design efforts on assigned projects from initial information gathering through final implementation.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and participate in design reviews.
  • Verify system performance requirements are met.
  • Write original, well-structured PLC and HMI code and make changes to existing code.
  • Use sound design practices to generate full system visualization, reporting, and alarming.
  • Configure industrial Ethernet networks.
  • Configure physical and virtual computer hardware/software.
  • Create interconnections to client networks.
  • Lead the start-up, troubleshooting, and acceptance testing of equipment both locally and at customer sites.
  • Field-tune systems and control algorithms.
  • Troubleshoot non-functioning control systems.
  • Contribute to and interpret Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Generate process control narratives and contribute to equipment Operation & Maintenance manuals.
  • Working with Project Managers to regularly update the Controls/SCADA portion of project plans.
  • Work proactively with Project Managers to address issues related to project schedule, budget, or scope and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Act as a leader to support, promote, and improve department standards for design and programming.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers.
