About The Position

Hampton, Lenzini and Renwick, Inc. (HLR) of Elgin, IL is looking to hire a full-time Project Engineer (Preliminary Engineering). This role involves providing engineering support for a variety of municipal and private projects including roadway reconstruction, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, water mains, bridges, trails, and traffic signals. The position requires assisting with the concept, design, and engineering for IDOT and Local Roads preliminary engineering projects, effectively communicating with clients and stakeholders, understanding and implementing project schedules, and executing requirements for different funding opportunities. Responsibilities also include preparing exhibits for project reports, reading and interpreting technical procedures or government regulations, managing the Environmental Survey Request process, writing project reports and funding applications, and preparing project cost estimates.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
• Must be a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois or an EIT with the ability to achieve State of Illinois License within 12 months
• Valid Driver's license with a good driving record
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with IDOT and Phase I projects

Nice To Haves

• Experience with ISTHA/IDOT and Local Roads project processing procedures
• Microstation/Geopak software
• Geometric Design

Responsibilities

• Assist with the concept, design, and engineering required to complete IDOT and Local Roads preliminary engineering projects
• Effectively communicate and coordinate with clients and stakeholders both verbally and written
• Understand project schedules and implement accordingly
• Understand and execute requirements for different funding opportunities
• Prepare and execute exhibits to communicate with clients for inclusion in project reports
• Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures or government regulations
• Environmental Survey Request process
• Write project reports
