About The Position

Michels Canada is a nationally recognized general contractor in energy, infrastructure and power construction based in Nisku, Alberta, with offices in British Columbia and Ontario. We are part of the Michels Family of Companies. The Michels Family of Companies is a privately owned global construction company with operations across North America, Australia, Singapore, and Germany. It is headquartered in Brownsville, Wisconsin, USA. Our Project Engineer, Pipeline, plays a key role in delivering pipeline projects from start to finish. In this role, they have the opportunity to lead smaller projects or take ownership of specific scopes within larger builds, while gaining hands-on experience across equipment design, procurement, scheduling, production, transportation, installation, testing, and commissioning. Our Project Engineer, Pipeline keeps pipeline projects on track by managing budgets, schedules, and compliance with company standards, while also supporting and mentoring contractors and craft workers through clear interpretation of project plans and specifications. This position is based out of our Nisku office.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree with 5-years’ experience or Technical diploma with 6-8 years’ related experience.
  • Registered as P.Eng or P.L. Eng with APEGA in Alberta.
  • Minimum of 5-years of related construction experience with a contractor, preferably in pipeline or heavy civil construction.
  • Working knowledge of Primavera, MS Project, Excel, AutoCAD and Bluebeam.
  • Familiarity with CSA Z662, ASME B31.4, or ASME B31.8 considered an asset.
  • Experience writing plans in accordance with company specifications and applicable industry codes.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced project environment.
  • Must possess a valid driver license for the type(s) of vehicles which may be driven, and an acceptable driving record as determined by Michels Review Team.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and promoting a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and following all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identifying and communicating workplace hazards and correcting or seeking assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Taking the lead in managing the full project lifecycle—from design and procurement through scheduling, production, transportation, installation, testing, and commissioning of complex equipment.
  • Keeping projects on track by managing budgets and progress, aligning with schedules and control estimates, and ensuring compliance with company procedures.
  • Ensuring work is executed to the highest standards by delivering projects in accordance with design requirements, budget, schedule, and company and project policies.
  • Providing clear interpretation of drawings, detail sheets, and specifications to contractors and craft workers to support accurate and efficient execution.
  • Preparing, maintaining, and updating engineering and project control documentation.
  • Collaborating with project managers, engineers, and key stakeholders to develop and execute effective construction strategies.
  • Providing mentoring and coaching to other technical team members, contributing to a collaborative, supportive, and knowledge‑sharing environment.
