The Opportunity The Project Engineer – Pipeline supports the development and execution of natural gas pipeline projects by performing engineering assignments of limited scope and complexity under guidance from more senior engineers. This role offers hands‑on exposure to preliminary and detailed design, contractor coordination, and cross‑functional collaboration while building a strong foundation in pipeline project engineering. The Project Engineer plays a key role in ensuring engineering work is delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with approved plans, schedules, and budgets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Two (2) or more years of related engineering experience.
  • Ability to execute assignments with detailed oral and occasional written instructions, with work reviewed in detail.
  • Working knowledge of engineering calculations, design methods, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to exercise judgment in selecting appropriate engineering methods.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within North America as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting natural gas pipeline or facilities projects.
  • Knowledge of applicable natural gas industry construction practices, engineering design standards, and industry codes and regulations.
  • Familiarity with FERC and other regulatory agency requirements.
  • Experience coordinating or overseeing third‑party engineering consultants.
  • Understanding of asset lifecycle management, system reliability, and gas transmission operations.
  • Experience supporting pipeline integrity, maintenance, or modernization projects (e.g., class changes, geotechnical work, pig launcher/receiver installations or modifications).
  • Strong analytical, facilitation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify risks, hazards, and potential conflicts between project activities.
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
  • Comfort working in an evolving environment and adapting to change.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts in a structured and professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Execute engineering assignments of limited scope and complexity, exercising initiative on routine and recurring work.
  • Perform preliminary and detailed engineering design work in support of natural gas pipeline projects.
  • Assist senior engineers with technical tasks requiring engineering calculations, design methods, and analysis.
  • Perform engineering calculations and designs with peer engineer oversight.
  • Support the selection, contracting, and oversight of third‑party engineering contractors to ensure compliance with approved plans, contracts, schedules, and budgets.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders (Operations, Engineering, Land, Environmental, Air, Technical Services, etc.) to support development and review of engineering deliverables.
  • Facilitate and participate in project design reviews during FEED and detailed engineering phases.
  • Schedule and participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) meetings.
  • Provide procurement support, including: Engineering and material procurement planning Material requisition package review and approval Technical and commercial bid tab review and approval Supplier qualification support
  • Review engineering contractor invoices and change order requests.
  • Work with project controls to update engineering and material monthly forecasts.
  • Support resolution of technical and engineering issues during detailed engineering, construction, and commissioning.
  • Provide technical support for the resolution of non‑conformances during engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Review and approve pressure testing documentation.
  • Manage workflow and coordination between internal teams and external engineering consultants.
  • Track engineering deliverables, adjust plans or resources as needed, and report status to project management.
  • Identify and support management of change activities to maintain design and project integrity.
  • Capture lessons learned and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with other project groups to share and implement best practices.
  • Participate in TC Energy’s Engineer in Training (EIT) program.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of project management tools, processes, and standards.
  • May provide technical guidance to technicians, support staff, and entry‑level engineers assigned to shared project work.
