About The Position

The candidate will have experience with municipal transportation projects and understands how roadway, intersection, pedestrian, and other transportation improvements move from concept to construction. You should be comfortable developing designs, preparing construction documents, coordinating with other disciplines, and working through the details that make projects successful. In this role, you'll support and lead portions of transportation projects, assist with project coordination, and collaborate with municipalities, agencies, and internal teams to develop practical, cost-effective solutions. You'll contribute to roadway design, plan production, permitting efforts, and construction support while ensuring quality and attention to detail throughout the project lifecycle. We're looking for someone who is organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities. Strong candidates bring transportation design experience, knowledge of industry standards and municipal requirements, proficiency with tools such as Civil 3D, OpenRoads, or MicroStation, and a desire to grow into greater project and client responsibilities over time.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. Degree in an appropriate field of study from an accredited college is required.
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in the location of practice is required.
  • Ability to work independently and with others, with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing engineering plans, reports, and documentation
  • Familiarity with local regulations, permitting processes, and design standards
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and skill in determining project requirements, setting project scope of work, determining design budgets, determining preliminary construction budgets, and review of contracts.
  • Strong work ethic
  • Experience with computer aided drafting and modeling using industry accepted software.
  • Experience with codes and regulations, interpreting plans, and design discipline specific project components.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for project completion in accordance with quality assurance policies, standards and project specifications
  • Prepare and review engineering plans and drawings
  • Assist in the preparation of project proposals, cost estimates, and feasibility studies
  • Performs and/or directs engineering design, coordination with other design staff for construction document and specification production in compliance with building codes, construction administration, and development of reports/studies
  • Serves as an advisor to the Project Manager, identifying and communicating any potential risk to the project in a timely fashion
  • Performs and/or directs design computations by hand and by computer software
  • Uses experience, education, and judgment to make informed decisions. Retains knowledge and builds on previous experiences to increase capabilities in breadth and complexity
  • Organizes multiple projects and tasks and completes them in a timely manner, on schedule, and per PEC Standards. Oversees tasks that have been delegated to other engineers and support staff
  • Effectively communicates and coordinates with the Design Team to complete design tasks on numerous projects
  • Perform quality control reviews at appropriate milestones
  • Mentors, trains and develops less experienced staff
  • Participates in business development activities to include developing and maintaining relationships with clients
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion
