About The Position

Helix Electric, a leading electrical contracting company, is seeking a Project Engineer Intern for Summer 2027. This internship offers a hands-on learning experience with meaningful responsibilities and a top-notch mentor program. Interns will be exposed to various project types, construction phases, and project teams, contributing to their growth and the company's success. The Project Engineer assists their Project Manager, acting as a liaison between the field and the office, and is responsible for planning, executing, and finalizing projects within schedule and budget.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program such as Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Highly motivated with a tendency to take initiative.
  • Basic math skills with ability to calculate and analyze data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • The ability to work well with all levels of the organization.
  • A mindset for making continuous improvements of department processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous construction or internship experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships with project managers, subcontractors, engineers, and vendors.
  • Collaborate with superintendent to track material and maintain positive relationships with vendors.
  • Act as a champion of the Helix safety culture, monitoring and encouraging jobsite safety and accident prevention.
  • Engage in the Change Order process and assist with estimating using Accubid.
  • Analyze subcontract agreements to understand scope of work and project pricing.
  • Involved with material and equipment procurement.
  • Collaborate closely with the BIM department in coordination and planning.
  • Produce and maintain detailed job logs (transmittals, submittals, RFIs).
  • Monitor quality control.
  • Manage labor schedules by working closely with superintendents and project managers.
  • Create and order prefabricated assemblies for planning and on-time delivery.
  • Walk jobs, learn the trade, and utilize knowledge to enhance company performance.
