About The Position

GE Vernova is seeking sharp, personable, highly organized interns who are looking for the opportunity to grow their technical and professional skills while building a career with unlimited potential. Interns will learn from the best in the industry and work on substantial projects with real world implications, getting hands-on with digital technologies. Focus areas for this internship will be in Grid – Software Solutions within Services and Engineering functions. In this position, the interns will work on solving interesting problems related to Wholesale Energy Markets.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Master or PhD program at an accredited university or credentialed software accelerator program.
  • Degree focused on Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or relevant STEM majors
  • Must commit to working full time (40 hrs/wk) during the internship.
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Bellevue, WA
  • Must have the ability to work in the US for an unlimited amount of time without sponsorship

Nice To Haves

  • Prior intern, co-op, or research experience in software engineering, energy markets, power systems, or enterprise grid management software.
  • Familiarity with wholesale electricity market structures (e.g., Locational Marginal Pricing, unit commitment, economic dispatch) or Market Management Systems (MMS).
  • Hands-on coding experience with Java for backend development and Python for scripting, automation, or data processing.
  • Exposure to database concepts (SQL) and familiarity with software development lifecycle tools (e.g., Git, JIRA, or Jenkins).
  • An interest in how software applications optimize large-scale grid operations and the ability to bridge the gap between complex power system requirements and software solution delivery.
  • Exposure to or coursework in energy economics, operations research, or the regulatory frameworks governing ISO/RTO operations.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills with experience in software industry standards, testing, and debugging.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to articulate complex technical and market-related concepts to cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated creative problem solving and a proactive, curious approach to learning complex, high-availability energy software platforms.
  • 3.0 GPA or higher

  • Relocation Assistance: Co-op/Interns will be reimbursed for reasonable, proper, and documented expenditures incurred while initially reporting to work and returning to school/home upon completion of the assignment. Employees with a permanent address greater than 50 miles away from the work location are eligible.
  • Housing Allowance: Co-op/Interns employees receive a weekly housing allowance to help off-set living expenses when the co-op/Intern’s permanent residence is at least 50 miles away from the work location.
